Catchy .ME domain - what's ME like?

    Alright,

So I'm about to buy a .ME domain which will be the end part of a phrase (like "youlike.me" or similar).
However, I'm unsure how good such a domain is? Are there any major online sites which uses .ME domains or similar domains which are not .com/.net/.biz/.co.uk etc.?
And do search engines like these kind a country TLDs?

    Thanks :).

I own the domain "phptutorials.me", and for sale purposes they aren't great. .me domains are primarily used for phrase-type addresses like the one you mentioned, or for personal blogs. Search engines treat them no differently to any other CCTLD, since it's the domain assigned to Montenegro.

I believe ME domains are simply one of those trendy fashions that later decay, not to mention some domains make sense, i.e. catch.me, and others sounds weird, let's say something like doors.me

How can someone be a door unless he is Jim Morrison? :D

I didn't quite get what you're saying, Mystique.
Do you believe that all ME domains will decay, or only those which doesn't make any sense, like "doors.me"?

    - ccTLDs will never decay, they represent a country, they are limited to 200 LL in existence and only 3 of them represent a word that targets the world .TV/.CO/.ME I call them "hybrid" extensions because they perfectly work like a gTLD.

    - Only gTLDs decay because ICANN is planing to create an infinity amount of those LLL, LLLL, LLLLL, LLLLLL english words after the dot in the future, just look at those infamous extensions: .MOBI/.NAME/.JOBS/.PRO/.TRAVEL/.ASIA/.MUSEUM ...ect and some of them doesn't make any sense like .CAT what's next ? .DOG/.COW/.PIG ?

Yes, I meant domain names that not make sense at all. I believe ME is great for very personal domains or topics from a personal point of view if you find the right combination. See Bob Parsons went with ME for his blog as well and it's quite successful.

My suggestion => buy the .me in the phrase, but if you can, also purchase the complete TLD phrase if you can.... Example: havefunwith.me + havefunwithme.com

This should be done for a multitude of reasons.

    Cheers!~

    ^^ Good advice.

FB.me and WP.me (facebook and wordpress URL shortening services).
formspring.me is in the top 500.

.ME can be Geo targeted to any country in webmaster tools (its not locked to Montenegro)

    Cheers

Yeah this one's pretty hot!

    lolz.. wouldn't say no~

anyway back to the point -the way I see it the dot me has been typecast as an extension that's personable to one's self so domains like Tom.me Jane.me Harry.me ect are well suited (and valued) to this type of extension.

In your example ("youlike.me") is more of a domain hack than anything else and can be applied to any (or most of) the exotic ccTLD's.

I think BobParsons.mealso exemplifies it's usage as it's marketed to be. In the long run it puts the (dot)name in to the domain extension graveyard probably for good.

And that's probably where the extension will find true value in the aftermarket. Catchy phases/domain hacks, personal names and short LL/LLL/LLLL types will probably survive, whilst others outside those genres will be dropped.

What about high exact search names with .me, are they worth getting? I got pokergames.me and mortgageloans.me. What do you think there worth? Thanks

    well 50:50 on this one
I see it more or less as one of those 'maybe'/'maybenot' scenarios, here's a good example - I've reg cumsearch.me and had a few low-ball offers in my email account, but others who reg something like cablecords.me may not. It all depends on just how catchy a regged two tier .me really is and how
desirable it is in the eye of the beholder.

Are you trying to say that clickme.com is better then click.me? Unlike you, some of us think outside of the .com bubble. ShopSmartDomainsdotcom is a horrible domain name... long website address, that is difficult to remember.

Do you think kids are going to remember this?

The phone number is much easier to remember. It's only 11 numbers vs 25 letters.

I feel bad for that company's car.

Also, these 3 ccTLDs are also gTLDs:

I agree but those 2-3-4 words domain name aren't future proof... What I'm saying is that... you have cumsearch.me but what happend if in let's say in 2-3 years, someone release the .search extension? your going to be jealous and i'm sure you want to register cum.search or come.search right ? that leaves .me unnecessary. Or if your extremely lucky, you have search.me, you can create the cum.search.me subdomain! See what i mean ? Or in the worst case, you get cumsearch.me and someone else can get searchcum.me see ???

2 words stick together that make it look like a word are bad domain hacks.

Domain hack's purpose is to be like this formula: keyword.keyword

Exemple: Ani.me is a good domain hack because "Ani" is a name and "Me" is a word and together they make "Anime" also a word.
Exemple: Click.me is a good domain hack because "Click" is a word and "Me" is a word and together they make a phrase.
Exemple: itsallabout.me is a bad domain hack because "itsallabout" is not a word and "Me" is a word and together they look weird.
Exemple: me.com is not a domain hack because "Me" is an excellent word but "Com" is not a word... "Com" used to be an abbreviation of "commercial" and together they dont look great.
