Hello, I am doing some follow up questioning for a buddy of mine. He doesn't use the internet, and is more of an investor of ideas than anything. A question came up today about an Online Casino. I was looking for ways to run an online casino, without breaking any laws foreign or local. What laws do we need to study on in order to follow proper legalities.
It depends on where you are located. I live in Norway, and here everything that has to do with gambling is forbidden (except the governments service). A lot of online casinos are located in Malta, Riga, Antigua and Barbuda.
The crazy thing about this is that google accepts ads for online casinos. And it's very sketchy as to whether you can or should do online gambling. I think there are loopholes. The thing is, you cannot base one in the United States. That I'm sure of, even though I am not a lawyer. If you have one for fun and games, that's a different story. It's when money starts changing hands and being transferred from a bank is where the gray area is. I'd probably stay away or become an affiliate that falls withing all rules. Or even just do a site for fun, no money changes hands. Stephen C
I don't think online casinos are legal in the United States. I would dig deep if I were you. I think the press is saying the government does not want it legal (US).
There's gotta be a lot of law-breaking going on where online casinos are concerned. I know in the rural areas around here there are a ton of Internet cafes. While they parade as Internet cafes, it is common knowledge that most of the patrons are there to gamble online. One that I saw even had a huge banner promoting some sort of sweepstakes.
I wasn't too sure either. I imagine he'll be passing this by lawyers a couple of times before ever even thinking of doing so. I had advised on that much anyhow. The reason I came here, is because I imagined that if they worked with credits opposed to live money. Also, thought of maybe pushing him to open a company in another country where it was legal.. etc
i was looking into something similar for my poker website... there is something called a "free roll" if i remember correctly... and its basically a tournament where they dont pay to enter but they can still win say 5000 dollars... how would this help, well .... i dont know how "legal" this is but you charge for your news letter so people know the EXACT date of the free roll. The tournament has to be available to EVERYONE.... but say with the internet EVERYONE may not find your site which is fine... and you can not contact EVERYONE... so the people that are on your newsletter get to know what day and what table to play at... like i said... i am not giving you ANY ADVICE... i am only telling you what i have considered doing and looked into. if you want we can exchange other ideas also...
Assuming you are in the US, it's 100% illegal. There is no way to run a legal online casino in the US. The big boys in Vegas can't even do this. Just keep in mind that as long as your ass is sitting at a desk in the US, you have to follow US laws regardless of where your company is on paper. You definitely would have to ban US citizens from using the casino. You would have to ask a lawyer on this one, but you might not even be able to physically opperate an offshore casino for offshore citizens from within the US.
Thank you, the last two posts definitely have given me GREAT input material to return to my client(s). Either way I'm still advising a lawyer confirm all and final push promotions on this idea.
i doubt anyone in the US is doing it... and if they are it is only for a week or so LOL cause then they probably have unwanted visitors TRUST ME no one is running a gambling site in the US
