Man I have had a site up for a about 1.5 weeks and made one sale ($21.14 USD) and I have been busting my balls to get that sale with adwords and some facebook stuff. Anyway today I was a bit like whatevs this is so frustrating.

Do people actually make money on the internet?

I am a newbie and the way people get you into the internet is like 'oh its sooo easy, and then you just get a passive income of 10,000USD a month for not doing much at all' - This hasnt been my experience....

Who out there is making cash??

and how long were you at it before it became a profitable venture?

Also what are you cashmakers backgrounds? Mine is in sport and performance psychology so I did need to learn loads about websites etc

Interested to hear what you have to say.

    lol

    -----------

1.5 weeks and 1 sale is really good. The first site I have ever made has yet to make a sale to this date...LOL

about 9 months before I started to make any real money online,

Hire people to do this work for you...(scriptlance.com and elance.com) They will write articles, and bookmark your site for really cheap.

If you are trying the adwords game, you need to be constantly tweaking your ads and setting up multiple landing pages. Also when you find a profitable keyword/product, you need to scale it and take it to the other advertising platforms.

thanks Maccas, great info - I guess I am trying to do it all myself because I want to learn but I am also on a budget of 700USD for everything. So it is a bit of a shoestring operation. Just got slammed in adwords though yesterday... oops!

Of course you can make money online.

The problem is people are not willing to work. It could take months before you get any decent money coming in. And even then you still need to be on top of your game as the web is always changing.

If you want to make money from your website then you need to get lot of traffic. Improve your SERP to get organic traffic.
And if you want to make money via other ways on the internet, then you should try doing online jobs at freelance sites. This is one of the best ways to earn good cash on the internet. Some people are even making living via freelancing.

took me a year to make a buck with my site......things started looking up after that.

If you think making money online is a piece of cake, think again. Constant work is required to keep your site on top, and even then you never know what tomorrow will bring.

It took me almost 2 years of hard daily work to start really making any money - it is always interesting to watch people jump in hoping they will make millions overnight.

Nothing in life is free... or effortless.

I'm making boatloads of money on the internet, and at this point I have minimized the actual amount of work that I have to do. I work smart, rather than hard.

That said - I have to BUST my f-ing ASS to get where I am. Just because it is the internet, does not mean it is any different than real life business.

Consider an entrepreneur outside of the internet. They work VERY hard for 10 years to get setup... then bring on a team of people to do the work - and enjoy Margaritas while sitting on their 40 foot SeaRay.

I suggest you watch the "group interview" from Boiler Room on Youtube. If that doesn't get you fired up, I don't know what will. :D

You get in what you put out man... bottom line.

Good for you! Now don't let it go to your head. It's funny that when someone start marketing on net they believe it’s different then marketing in the real world. I got news for you, there is no differences. You have to put some work into it. How long would McDonald’s in business if no one came to get a burger? Only those that are willing to put in the time effort will be the wins in this game... keep up the good work..

But that is just it - when you are starting everyone thinks that they will unleash their product or themselves on the internet and start "making money while they sleep" because that is what they have been told over and over again.

Yes. Yes they do. The trouble is people think they can start earning thousands overnight. Unfortunately it just doesn't work like this, it's a business like anything else.

You need to choose one thing and stick to a blueprint until you achieve the results you are looking for. At first I would even recommend doing it part time before you go out on a limb and quit your job.

It takes persistence and determination to keep going even when the rain is falling, but that's what you have to do. As time goes by it gets easier, you build up assets you can leverage and eventually it is possible to make hundreds/thousands in a day. Will it happen on day one? No. Will it happen on week one? Unlikely. Can you do it? Yes. Can you make money in your sleep? Yes.

Can you make money when you are doing other things? Yes.

You just create assets that keep working for you. It requires work in the beginning, regardless of what that asset is and don't let anybody tell you any different.

All that said, you can totally change your life if you commit to it. Mindset is the major part of the equation, you can learn the rest as you go along.

If you go in cynical, believing nobody makes money online, then guess what... you won't. What you believe in becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Do people fail? All the time. Do the people that keep going eventually succeed? Usually.

You have to see it this way.

Building an online business is like pushing a snowball.

In the beginning, there's a slight uphill, so it does require effort
for you to actually continually push it upwards.

But once you get over that peak, the snowball will start rolling
downhill, and start gaining more and more momentum on its own!

Which means you'll do less and less work.

Can you automate your business and make money without doing much?

    Yes.

Can you leave it 100% hands-free? No!

You can possible automate up to 90% of the process
but you have to get to that level first.

    Get that snowball rolling.

You got some nice advice in the thread. Can I ask you why are you using adwords with a limited budget? You mentioned that $700 is for everything. In my opinion, that is a guaranteed way to go broke. Or maybe you want to learn it the hard way!

If I were you, I would look into other options for driving traffic and forget about adwords until I see consistent income. There are more effective ways to get traffic and free traffic at that.

Seems to me you got good return for your efforts. Keep it up. Good news for you is that you have not even explored all possible marketing options, not even close. I will say it again, find ways to drive free traffic. That will save your adwords budget for now. A dollar saved is a dollar earned.

    Just my .02 cents.

Creating online income works in a vast number of ways. Kind of like climbing the ladder to put a new roof on your house. Need to take the steps (learn the skills) to begin laying the shingles that will weather the storm. Promote your site, market and ask for help when you get stuck. Isn't that what forums are all about?
