Haha - Just kidding... But seriously, I would love a review of the skin I have developed for oweb.co.uk (My first ever domain) You can see the skin at http://www.softalien.com/oweb/ It's just a front page skin at the moment, with no links, and pretty crappy content, but I'd like to get a review of the design and see if there is anything that needs changing. Any opinion is appreciated... (Even if it's really bad).... Cheers.
The headings were kind of hard to read, when first looking I couldn't decipher the "search the site" heading for example. Other than that I think it looks good, nice colors.
The images seem to have degraded somehow?!? They looked fine on my home PC and now they look pretty crappy... Damn.
Same thing here..My only issue would be the font of the headings. I especially like the site in your "recent work" I like how the pricing is broken down as its very clear. A great start!
Anyone else have any comments? Last night I started to port the template into WP so hopefully it will be live soon. I think I fixed the image issue (Damn file compression), but I didn't bring in the updated Images
The text images are very hard to read... i found myself getting much closer to my monitor than I prefer... Also the difference in the the size of the text images and the little text below on the left menu is very distracting. I tend to skip over the little text because of it. I really like the main body area though. Background color scheme is also very solid.
Oliver, I agree. I think the red is really tough to read. And the top most navigation doesn't seem to work perfectly with everything else...just something off there. Otherwise, I think that it looks really nice man.
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E !! j/k Other than what's been said above, I think it looks pretty cool. It's very clean and professional looking.
I'll change the fonts this evening - I can't deny that it needs to be changed The handwriting-type font is OK though isn't it?
Hey SEbasic, nice design... my only feedback so far (since there aren't any real links) is, if I'm an end user, I don't really see what I'm supposed to do. Sign up? Submit a lead/inquiry? Presumably people are going to come to the site because they're looking for design/templates/seo, but you don't have any "call to action". It looks like you have the content categories set up so people can learn about _you_ (which is just fine), but what happens when you want to learn about your customer? Maybe add a "Sign Up Now!" or "Get Started Today" link/button - something that draws attention and makes it clear what action (qualified) prospects should take as the next step for doing business with you. Just my 0.02. LC
I feel it has too many different fonts and colors and no focal point to start. No place to say start reading here. (in other words too busy) edit -- just read the one by labcoat88 and he is saying something similar --
Good points... I guess I'm relying on driving traffic directly to the internal pages of the site for niche(ish) phrases so that will hopefully let users understand the site slightly better. I imagine that a lot of the traffic I get will be for the free template stuff, so I doubt they will go any further into the site... The $44,99 banner was kind of intended to be a bit of a Call to Action but I guess it didn't really do the job The banner will be rotating though (As will some of the other aspects on the page. There will be relevant links throughout the copy that takes users to internal sections of the site - do you think that will be enough? Getting users to sign up to anything is really only relevant to the forums, but I guess I could put a forum login/registration in the left nav section...
Make it as obvious as you can what you want users to do. Links in the copy are great. Also see if you can include buttons or other things that people expect will take them somewhere. Make sure to use compelling, persuasive text, both in the main copy as well as the links/calls-to-action. After all, it's all about the text. Keep in mind that even if people are landing within the site, you still need to treat them as a totally new user and "lead" them to whatever action/result you have as an objective. But first things first, get the site up and running Once you're live and have some historical data, look through your analytics/logs and see what people actually do -- calculate your micro-conversion rates for each and every action point. Depending on how much traffic you end up getting, you might even consider running and A/B or split test to try variations on those call-to-action graphics. Basic stuff, I know, but why not do what you can to make the site a success? LC
That red in the header is really hard to read. I like the red elsewhere, but I would maybe change the color and font of that header image.
I like the handwriting type font but the other on headings is really hard to read. Other than it looks professional with pleasing colors
