Case study: How I ranked #1 in two weeks for my keywords

First of all I'm not a SEO expert. I'm just a php programmer with basic seo skills. Two weeks before i have decided to do some optimization on my website(http://bandwars.org). I used a paid keyword research tool to find a good non-competative keyword and desided to go with "top rated music bands" which have approx 27k searches per month. Today I was surprised that I'm ranking number one on google. Here is what I did. (again I'm not a seo guy so i dont know which step was effective and which dont)

    - Made my urls to be search engine friendly (but none of them includes my keywords so its bit irrevelant I guess)
    - Made my meta description tags to be different on each site but still all includes my keypharse or at least part of it
    - SEO friendly titles and h1 tags
    - Created an XML sitemap using this tool and submitted it at google webmasters
    - Made some niche(music realted) directory submissions
    - Created some articles and posted them to digg (no keyword rich articles at all and none of them received more than 7 diggs)
    - Submitted my site to about 35-40 social bookmarking sites using variations of my keypharse
    - Asked some of my friends to stumble my site using the keypharse
    - Made 2 link exchanges with related sites

As I mentioned I don't know which ones was the keys for the result. Also I know its not a big success since this keypharse is not too competitive but still its a huge success for me. Thanks for reading

Does this make sence to anyone, I tried asking the OP but he's not replying. On google adwords and wordtracker, it shows 0 results for "top rated music bands". Does anyone have any keywork tools indicating that the long tail keyword the OP posted gets 27K searches per mth? Am I wasting my time with google adwords keyword tool and wordtracker? OP, are you getting a similar amount of traffic considering ur #1.

    Thanks

You are targeting a keyword phrase that has ZERO competition. Want to find out why, just type it in and look to see if there are any ads?

So while it all sounds great, or even looks great on paper, it only matters if you don't care about making money from your site OR you have figured out a way to make money from what appears to be an otherwise commercially dead phrase (in which case you are really on to something and should be able to replicate the process with great success).

good work but a couple of comments:
-You haven't used probably the single best seo strategy- putting your keywords in the page title. You used it in your meta description but a title of "Top rated music bands- BandWars" would be even more effective.
-It's possible you're in the honeymoon period- with my site I ranked really high in google searches for the first couple of weeks after getting indexed then I dropped down to more reasonable levels.

Good work. I also had that moments a while back. Now? I have a few sites that are in No.1 position for their keywords. That's what I do anyway. BTW, what paid keyword tool did you use to find out that your keyword gets 27k searches?

    Regards,
    Joseph

not sure where you searched to see 27k searches per month, google doesn't show any data for your search term on the external keyword tool. there is only 400k search results for your term meaning getting ranked for that term would be walk in the park. it is extremly low volume keyword and you should not be getting much traffic form the ranking if any.
