You really think a "Western-Style" Democracy will stabilize the region?

I don't. I don't see an end to the conflict. Israel will remain a sore point to all people in the region, and agitation and warfare will continue on because it's a way of life, and big business.

I like what you're saying in principle because I believe Peace is an obvious solution, but as you said, the same ground is being covered every day, over and over, by all parties on both sides.

I really feel like Arafat had a chance to end the hostilities but he refused to because war with Israel was his business.

what makes you think they won't get any new weapons any way.
they got some when they broke into egypt didn't they or maybe they get some 20 years from now. this is only a problem if you can not agree on peace.and you both should do what is necessary to reach peace.
israelis and palestanians have to live next to each other for eternity. they can only decide if it is in peace or at war. i said the same thing to imad. like it or not it is the truth

i think all muslems want a solution for palestanian people, not destruction of israel. and maybe a muslem style democracy would work rather than a western style.
as far as work that has to be done, i am doing my share what are you willing to do for peace.
as far as arafat was concerned
    a- he is dead
b- they should have talked more after that rather than what we saw happened.

No, he refused because the offer Israel made him was more of a circus joke than a serious proposal.
