I hope they drop the brand, I just want it out of my sight. I don't even care if they improve it or not, just the name A-O-L out of the entire UK will be VERY GOOD NEWS! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6039740.stm Ow shit: Never mind then, boring acquisition.
makes sense, carphone warehouse offer their own broadband service. they are obivously looking to expand. if they got rid of that dammed software, the useless bt voyager modem that AOL provides as standard and got rid of the AOL brand then they'd be onto a winner.
Wow! Big news for the UK! Carphone warehouse is third biggest UK internet provider behind BT in second and AOL in first. But I agree with amnezia - they need to get rid of that bloody software.
AOHell is only in my opnion the biggest Internet Provider due to it being bundled with new machines especialy if you buy from such stores as PC World. Which many people with little computer / internet knowledge would go to. They are then almost forced to signup to aol because of how simple it is, However some soon realise how much aol limit you in respect to what you can do and how much the software limits your system. aol would actually be in some respect a good isp if they scrapped there software, althought this is not going to happen anytime soon as the reason there software exisits is to maximise there revenue. Just my opnion
Correction: NTL first. I HATE their email shit where it doesn't send back the entire string. You'd have a conversation with someone and you'd completely lose track of what it was about. I said before, If I had the millions I'd have bought them and just dumped all of it in a landfil site to be forgotten about.
I hate both NTL and AOL, the sooner they're both wiped off the face of the planet the better AOL for the awful interface and NTL for the even worse customer service.
Add BT to it. You can't get anything done in under an hour. You get transfered to India where you have to talk at half your normal rate of speech, leaving out difficult words like 'internet connection' - which are kind of vital when complaining about your internet connection. I'm with EFH Broadband and love it. Not the cheapest but a no nonse policy that suits me.
The thing I hate about all these broadband suppliers is that they give you so much software that you just don't want. Somebody should just offer Firefox and tell people to sign up to gmail rather than bundling loads of rubbish.
You guys are lucky to even have a choice...Most of Ireland still doesn't have broadband (Of course on the rosier side, we also don't have AOL )
All the 'L's' got me confused That email thing is infuriating. So is the annoying interface and software they use to keep their walled garden.
That's what's good about EFH. You get a pre-configured router and an A4 with instructions, that's it. Don't need anything else and don't want to pay for anything else. No stupid welcome pack with thick glossy paper that costs a fortune. Plug it in and it works. I was actually going for the Talk Talk one, free international calls would have saved me a fortune but their delays were horrible - too much demand for their free service. And with Skype I get the same cuts in calls anyway. EFH is also known to not be (overly) anal about VOIP and P2P packets. Big ISPs tend to throttle it all.
