Career in SEO

Hi Everyone! I've been out of work for a while due to family commitment. I have a degree in Information Technology and I'm now looking to return to full time employment. I dont want to get into coding (after not doing it for a number of years most of it is forgotten!). The area Im most interested in is Digital Marketing and SEO. I have some experience of SEO from running my own website a few years ago. But what would be the best way to get my career started? Is an IT degree the best to have for this area? How could I improve my skills/CV?

 

You need to rank websites and keep reports of the data then you can start your own seo business. But you need results 1st.

Just to clarify, I don't want to make money online through SEO. I want to get employment in this area, for example as an SEO Executive with a company.

 

Maybe you should apply for a couple of jobs to see what reaction you get.

Though if you do not have previous experience in SEO don't you think an SEO execs job might be a bit of a tall order?

 

First of all you need some experience know how to rank sites, because the companies are looking for employers with knowledge how to rank sites, adwords, Analytics and Social marketing.
make reports of rankings, keywords density and research, all this you must know fist before you can apply for a job.

My honest advice, is try to rank at least 10 websites, Important is for all your sites the H1and H2 tag and the Metatag, because the last one is showing in the search results.

Real simple.

First, read all the white hat SEO websites, and some grey hat sites.

While I think these sites have total BS SEO; its what most agencies use as they never risk penalizing a clients site for anything.

Then, build 5 authority websites, rank them and make them niche dominating sites. Create your own strategies, document everything. Show reports, case studies.

You do not need any kind of degree or knowledge other than SEO experience to get an SEO job. They can pay $50,000/year+ and no formal education required. It's a results/experience orientated business.

With that said, jobs are for people who can't build businesses. You can use SEO to build a business and replace the job income fast.

 

SEO is the base of online marketing. So, It is necessary to optimise websites through SEO techniques.

 

I did the same thing
I pursued Information technology and i wan't into coding.
I was doing free lancing in SEO when i was studying .
And that counted.
Do some freelancing for 6 months and it will be beneficial to get jobs in corporate sectors in SEO

But as sites began to grow and make money, it became more reasonable to hire a dedicated SEO specialist than to have the Web master do it. The demand for good SEO experts is high and is constantly on the rise.

 

There are several companies offering SEO training. You can get trained first and those companies can even get you placed. There are several such sites online. When you select the company, just do google search and find out the best company. Discuss with them in person and you'll be trained in SEO. Once you are trained, you need to do a lot of home work by reading and following several SEO blogs and once you build knowledge+experience you can scale up higher. This is the best way to build a career in SEO.

The first thing you have to create is PORTFOLIO. It means you should rank websites and make these websites are your proof that your SEO techniques are really working and that you are not just like any other seo guru. If you are able to do so then for sure money will flood into your bank account.

 

Exactly! You have to show evidences/proofs first that you really can do it.

 

It will help you a bit. You can gain your skills by reading blogs, threads etc, you can find out it on internet. In Internet marketing everyone making money in different way.
