Car Insurance Rate or Rates?

I am trying to decided which of these two keywords to go after.

Car insurance rate or car insurance rates

    Using Wordtracker I get:

    car insurance rates 179.0 /day
    car insurance rate 130.0 /day

Using Google Traffic Estimator it says "rate" gets significantly more traffic then "rates".

And of course Oveture keyword tool just spits out the non plural results which don't help me at all.

As far as the SERPS and the bid amounts on these keywords go they are similar but different. So I can't tell which one gets more traffic or which is harder to rank for.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?

I would say go with rates. If I was going to google and searching for rates for just anything I would type "hotel rates" not "hotel rate". So in your case, I'd say car rates is correct.

I'd suggest going with "rates", as well, and the Google Trends data seems to support it. But there's no reason that you couldn't target "rate" on another page of your site, as well - may be a good way to capture traffic from both terms. :)

Why not just do both? Spend a bit of money on each, and then let the performance determine which way you go.

I would think "car insurance quote" would be a better term.

At first I thought you were asking which was proper English.

It got me thinking of how I use it though...

Car insurance rate for collision coverage
Car insurance rates (covers all aspects of the policy)

If searching for new coverage I would use rates.

    Good luck.

This is why it's good to have a lot of keywords in your campaigns. :)
