I was wondering if you captured stills from copyrighted videos (exclusive, watermarked) from YouTube...can you use those images as long as you leave the watermark there and give proper credit?

Giving credit or leaving a watermark does not give you rights to use content you do not own or have been granted rights to use.

It's a great way to have the owner nail you for distribution of copyrighted material and an additional headache. Many have done this, some with luck of no prosecution, others not as lucky. There are many ways to "brand" video but embedding within the video is like leaving your fingerprints on the smoking gun.
