Is there any way for a person to "capture" emails when it comes to trying to build a list of emails? What software would you recommend? I thought I heard somebody say I can capture it without the person putting their email in... probably false but I figured I'd might as well ask.
So you can be a no good low life spammer that'll get reported and blacklisted from the major mailers? Sorry, if you want to be a spammer, at least be proper about it and get people to sigh up. If you just want to "capture" emails, then chances are what you are trying to sell is not worth buying.
What makes you think I want to SPAM people, haven't you ever heard of "friendly reminders." For instance, somebody comes to the site and doesn't come back for a while, I send them a small email to see how they are doing. Its all about keeping up with the people who keep your site or business alive. And no, I don't spam, I don't like it so why should I piss anyone off with something that gets to me... wouldn't make sense.
Sorry, I must have been put off by the word "capture" and the fact, my email has been captured from DP and now I get "Dear Digital Point member, " emails.... If I didn't sign up for it, it's getting flagged for spam. In many cases, this would even include a "friendly reminder". If you figure it out, make sure you clearly display an 'unsubscribe' option... Also, unless people sign up for it on their own, you may be breaking the TOS of your host (it breaks the terms of both of my hosts). Double check before you implement anything like that, even if in a friendly capacity.
^^ The bottom line is there would be a difference between "spam" and "friendly reminder" ... "friendly reminder" is something that would come every so often, SPAM is like every day! I get what your saying and thank you for your input Q.
Correct, I get 30 emails a week to increase the size of my.... I get 20 emails a week to get Microsoft or Adobe products.... Though are both automatically filtered. Now and again I'll get something from another site that I've visited, mainly forums & the like telling me I've not logged in for three months and that I'm missed. These are form letters, and I generally ignore them (though now & again, I'll actually return)... but then, I'm a member of over 50 forums, most of which I do not visit. If I was getting reminders from them all, then that crosses over to spam, as there was nothing in their terms saying they were sending me such things (as it's a mod, not a standard feature in vB). It's just that it's treading this ice, as one mans friendly reminder is another mans spam... Give several options to sign up. Put in a mailing list link on your main pages. Offer an opt-in checkbox on all sales pages and/or forms that collect an email. Make a few pages dedicated to how wonderful an occasional email would be from you... just be very cautious as to just how you are collecting the emails and how you are sending them. If it's clear that it's 100% opt-in, then on the off chance you do get blacklisted, you'll have a MUCH easier time getting removed from those lists. Likewise, you'll be in better hands regarding your host's ToS.
