Captcha is more difficult

Has anyone else noticed that the captcha words used by most of the social sites are more difficult to read than it used to be??
Sometimes I have to reload 3-4 times to understand the letters; there are times when the word is in mirror or when there are greek or other weird characters....

I personally prefer the Captcha that asks you to pick a word from a definition or add up a series of numbers. These are easier AND more effective at what they are designed to do, which is block spambots from filling out website forms.

The whole letter/number thing superimposed on top of a bunch of sticks and twigs just doesn't seem very smart to me.

I have noticed this too on some sites it depends on the exact software the site is using - but personally I absolutely hate it and I usually try to avoid it as much as possible on my own sites. Recaptcha is not too bad for readability.

They most probably update their algorithms quite frequently, so to be ahead of the spambots.

I agree! Spambots are ALWAYS and CONSTANTLY updating to the captcha's.
Human's have the knowledge of entering a custom code to prove their "humanoid", rather than a bot.

For a webmaster, It IS a lifesaver. They, as well as me, would rather have the human take another 2 seconds to F5 it, then for many bots to join
    and spam a website.

This is just my view on it.

I've noticed captcha's becoming more difficult across the web, just not specifically on social networking sites. It's got to do with smarter spam bots out there.
