WTF is going on with people here thinking it's their duty to pass morale judgement on everyone else. Is it my imagination or is DP becoming a much more judgemental crowd? I'd hate to see it go the route WMW or Jill Wallen's followers. If someone is doing something that you feel obligated to report to google, msn, yahoo, or the morally righteous police then go for it... but jumping into a thread just to put someone down for looking for answers to tough questions is lame beyond words. Start your own thread in general chat if you want and link to the offending thread and say "Don't you just hate it when ...". but, I personally vote for letting ALL discussions happen without trying to shut them down just because some members object to the tactics being discussed. Case in point: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=295475#post295475 If you don't want to discuss IP Cloaking, then just don't discuss it... no need to trash this guy's thread ... at least that's my judgment ... ironic isn't it
I think it's all a matter of choice, and if you choose to trash talk him, well ... unless it goes to the extreme, I think it should be allowed just as much as someone coming in here saying that those who don't cloak are idiots. That is where the balance comes in, self-moderation + freedom of speech = what makes this forum great
Hmmmm...you know I just read the thread you mentioned and I personally don't see anyone "shutting" the thread down. It seemed that a few folks happend to mention their opinions. That's it. There's nothing wrong with that. There are all kinds of threads in General Chat (and elsewhere here on DP) where people are spouting extreme views. If it's not my cup of tea then I quit reading and move on. If I feel I can provide some help and I have time, then I do. Now, maybe this particular poster didn't get positive input, but then again not EVERY question on the boards gets tons of answers...and to be honest if you want to indepth help, then you should at least do a bit of research (ie. Google it, test some options, post your results, etc). I track a lot of web business boards and I have to say DP is one of the most open, that's why I've stuck around and find time to participate. Ultimately noone is obligated to do anything here....so people can come and go as they please. The more a person gets involved, or the more detail they provide in their post, the better chance they'll get good advice. It's that simple. Maybe that's a harsh attitude, but i'm a strong believer in "you get out of it, what you put into it".
