Can't verify site on G Webmaster Tools

I have one site on Google Webmaster Tools that I can't seem to verify. I've uploaded the html file AND added the meta-tag. They both seem to be correct, but I continuously get the "We were unable to verify your file due to a server timeout." error. The server seems to be fine. Any ideas? It's been a few days now.....

Upload the file to the root directory(make sure that the file is blank). Then try again, it should work fine.

Make sure the file is a .html file, and not a htm!

well, he is getting a server timed out page.. it might be server's internet connection's problem..
just wait for a day or two, and then try again..
the best way to get verified is to add a meta tag(just hinting)

    Thanks

Which one? I find this happening to several domains now. One I just deleted and re-added to finally get it to work. Others all of a sudden become unverified. It's a bit squirrelly over there at G WM Tools!

make sure you dont have any bot-blockers like BadBehaviour, and disable anything else that might by trying to block/stop anything like scrapers or spam-bots.

Having the same problem, I am positive its on googles end as I have several sites spread over two servers, and all my sites will not verify. I get a "We were unable to verify your file due to a server timeout." error.

All my sites were verified before this happened and I have made not changes to any of my sites.

keep the meta tag down to the first head tag that comes in your index file.
