Can't validate one site

I have ads on one of my sites showing on all pages but for some reason, the network only querries pages from a directory which no longer exists on the site and none of the others although there are plenty more valid pages listed in Google.

First of all, I really don't understand why google still has in its index hundreds of pages from this site that no longer exist - in fact they haven't been there for over a year now!!

I know that normally, you could ask google to deindex urls via the "remove page" but that it's not realistic if you need to do it for hundreds of pages. Unfortunately because of the nature of certain websites, this (the "missing" pages) is unavoidable and it seems to me there is no way around it with the coop - I just cannot revalidate it, it's stuck in the "dead" directory and keeps querying the same "dead" pages again and again even though there are many other "real" pages listed in google. .

Actually there might be a way ... I guess I will have to look for some .htaccess solution to "redirect" the validation to real pages.

Edit: I've just realised I wrote this in the wrong forum, sorry!

As you were thinkin, wonder about making a custom 404 page with ads on it and redirect pages to your 404 page.

Thanks Shannon, it's sorted now (with a custom error page). I don't understand why google keeps nonexisting pages indexed for ever! The google spiders must have seen this pages as 404 thousands of times by now!

Be careful with the removal feature from Google, I have read many stories about people doing it the wrong way and ending up with their whole site getting removed
