Can't see directory listing of a directory

    I'm running apache2 on ubuntu 9.10 and am trying to share a single directory with "Options +Indexes". I put this in a virtual host / directory section in sites-available. It sort of works. I can see the listing headings, but no files are shown. Without the +Indexes I get a forbidden message. Why can't I see the files that are in the directory? I've restarted apache2 and checked the permissions of the files. The listing does not show any files or any subdirectories.

    Do you have "Options -Indexes" defined in your httpd.conf?
