Cant run codes in the background

    My apologies if this is the wrong section. But I have migrated to a new server with php 5.5 and not being able to run the code in the background.

    for eg: php example.php > op.txt & -- is not working.

    can somebody please let me know as to what is wrong

    i think only deamons can be run in the background?
