Can't get nameservers to work

I registered a domain at Name.com, but I have a problem. When I try to add the nameservers from my free host(Homegrownhosting), it says "ERROR:
The name server ns1.homegrownhosting.org is not a valid name server registered with the registry. To Register your own name servers click here.

If the domain name is locked, it will need to be unlocked before name servers can be edited.
Enter the desired name server settings below:"

What could I do? Which server or what? I can't afford paid server. I renember that I had problems with the last domain I bought too and couldn't use it at all..

You may need to contact support at homegrown to get the ip# for the nameserver then you can register it at namecheap and you will be in business. Register in this case means you tell them ns1 is at ip#.

It could also be the second part of that message. NC requires that you unlock your domain before you can change the NS.

I wonder if the OP did that prior to posting here about it, especially since they
    know the answer.

You need to register the nameservers.

This means you will have to see the nameserver to an IP address.

What you need to do is mentioned above. You firstly need to Unlock the Domain Name by clicking on the domain name. Where it says: "Domain Lock enabled (Unlock now)", click on "Unlock now". Then on the right side of the page in the "Control Panel", click on "Edit Name Servers". Where it says "Current Nameservers", delete the ones Name.com has put there. Add your nameservers where it says "Host:" & click on Add.
