does anyone here know how to get listd on dmoz? every time i submit to get listed or be and editor i get denied.
That's the problem right there, You tried more then once Shouldn't do that, submit only once and then fingers crossed
How do you know that the submission has been denied? Why did you submit more than once? The guidelines say only submit once and as you have demonstrated you can't follow guidelines. I not surprised you got denied as an editor. Also, if its the site in your signature, I would assume that they WERE denied quickly. They do not appear listable to me, so stop wasting yours and DMOZ's time.
You must be doing something really wrong if its hard to submit! It no harder than any other directory; the instructions are simple and it only takes a few minutes. What is hard about that?
DMOZ has lost credibility, poor communication and I agree is not the factor it used to be. People submit more than once because they do not communicate, how tough would it be to add an auto-responder....submit and move on.
Why? After you suggest a site, you get a screen that says 'thank you for your suggestion'. How would an autoresponder provide any more information than that?
Would you not want to be notified that your submission was accepted, denied or whatever? It all boils down to communication or customer relations which DMOZ does not have, does not care about because they do not charge for their service. It is one-sided ... I have sites listed with DMOZ and some which have no idea what status the is at....this is what I meant about auto-responder to keep the users current of status.
Since when are webmasters a "customer" of DMOZ? How much are they paying for this customer service that you seem to think they should be expecting from DMOZ. I would expect all of those things from a directory that is providing me some sort of service. DMOZ does not provide any sort of listing service for webmasters, so why should it provide what you think they should?
Read my post...I said it was a free service thus the poor communication. If it was a paid service you can bet they would keep clients aware of what was happening with status of their listings. My comment was if you were denied, accepted or whatever how easy would it be to have the portal automatically notify the user ... one line of code...very simple when editor makes his decision on the listing he must click something and then the site would notify the person making the submission. It is common courtesy something the internet lacks. Are you a DMOZ editor?
@Hooper: I think you're assuming that folks suggesting websites always give genuine email addresses. Does @@a.a look genuine to you? What about nospam@somedomain.tld? You also seem to be assuming that the code is easily changed. Trust me, it isn't - hence the imminent move to an entirely new codebase, bringing it up to this century's technology.
What about the email addresses like ? At times the editors of the odp ASSUME that the only ones that suggest sites to DMOZ are webmasters... I'm sure that many end users that suggest sites would be thrilled to know they helped out on the project. and no, the 'thank you for your suggestion' is nothing more then the page loaded after you submit and tells no one nothing. Well, maybe with luck it'll change with the implementation of dmoz2.0
IT needs long time's audit (one month or so) for DOMZ to check whether your directories are legal and suitable to put there. And the strict principle of DOMZ also keeps many sites away from it. WHen you direct your site to it, you's better make sure that your website is really good and qualified in content and design.
Wow, just wow... and they call me misleading, lol. It can take a day or it can take infinity to check a site, any other time frame is simply WRONG. Content is a claim they use, and if you look around, they don't care much for design, I mean, check out the ODP itself
there are so many things.. considered before submittin to dmoz I have seen some seo sites charging 10$ for submittin to dmoz profestionally.. but they dont gaurantee submission
I agree that communication between submitters and dmoz are poor. But for me , list in dmoz are still good thing.
