Can't Get Ads to Load

    Hi all!

    I've been a Co-op member for awhile now, but I'm having problems today updating my script. I was previously on the Perl/cgi script (version 11) and everything had worked well for months. But then I became unvalidated around March 15.

    Today, I've tried 3 different ways to work a new script, and I'm having a common problem across all methods. I've tried the Perl script (version 12), the baseline PHP script from Shawn, and the "passthru" php script. When I call the script (any script), my browser goes really, really slow and no ads ever finally load into the ad_network_ads.txt file. I'm getting no error messages, just a blank page.

    Rather than troubleshooting each of the scripts, I thought I should investigate why I can't call the ads using any of the methods. I can still log into my account, so I don't think I'm banned or anything? :confused:

    Any ideas? Or, more specifically, is there simple code I can install to call the ads without any bells and whistles? To see what's happening at the most basic level?
    Thanks!

    What error do you get when you run the normal PHP method?

    Just FYI, my problem may be similar to the automatic IP blocking discussed in the below thread. In a separate post, Clickdoc/Chachi mentioned that the Perl version 11 could give you a problem since it didn't have adequate controls on pinging the ad server too frequently.

    If this is true, and I get my IP unblocked, I can complete a script update to use a more compliant version.
    Thanks again

    Nope... not showing that IP as being blocked. Also tested it by pinging from the server itself, and it's fine.

    OK, thanks for checking the IP - glad to know that I'm not blocked or banned! I've made so many changes today to so many scripts that I'm not sure where to start now. I think I'll start fresh again tomorrow and see what's what. I'll focus on just one implementation and then I can have detailed error notices or behaviors from that one approach. I may write for more help tomorrow. Thanks!

    Hi again! Well, I've worked very methodically today, and I'm still getting the same odd behavior as yesterday. Here's where I am:

    server is php-enabled (php4);
    uninstalled every earlier document/file for the Ad Network;
    reinstalled only: ad_network_206.php and ad_network_ads_206.txt;
    chmod the above to 755 and 777, respectively;
    no .htaccess file (since php enabled);
    put a simple php test page in same directory as Ad Network files.

    Result: when I call the test page, the browser sits endlessly trying to load the ads, but doesn't ultimately succeed. No ads appear afterwards in the .txt file.

    Here's the test page address: www.travel-snap.com/coop-ad-network/coop-test.php

    Any thoughts?

    Same thing has been happening to me as of late. Starting a few weeks ago as well. Pages became really sluggish and then Coop Ads weren't even showing. I was also using the Perl version that worked without any trouble for months, but all of the sudden a few weeks ago I started having problems. At first I thought it was the server my website was hosted on, so a few days ago I switched it to a different server and then all was working well. Once again today everything ISN'T working as it was before.
    Is there another PERL/CGI version out that works without problems?

    Does anyone have a cgi version that is stable and working properly? or possibly can anyone come up with a new or improved version of the current perl version out?

    Anyone ?
    No one ?
    Someone ?

    It's just really strange that this all of the sudden happened over the past few weeks, when I've been a member of the Coop for about 4 or 5 months now and never had a problem.
