I hope someone can help me, I've been struggling last few days. Ok, Google indexed pages that don't exist and never did. Those pages were indexed recently(about 10 days ago). I can't find where those pages come from. Here is one of them http://www.moverscorp.com/moving_companies/UT_Utah/Salt_Lake_City/84177/ We don't have 84177 in out database, the fact is that particular zipcode doesn't even exist. There is no such zip code in the US! I've doubled checked the sitemap.xml(just in case), but nothing there either. I was thinking that someone could have build backlinks to "those" pages(that's the only explanation I could think of), but I'm not able to find any backlinks to those pages. Any idea/explanation? Has anyone experienced something similar? Regards.
I think the problem relates to the fact that you can enter any combination of digits and create your own pages. I have just tried a random string of numbers and letters i.e. http://www.moverscorp.com/moving_companies/UT_Utah/Salt_Lake_City/8frrr7/ This is returning a header status code of 200 which is telling search engine spiders that this page exists. You need to configure the site to ensure it returns a status code of 404 to prevent this from happening in the future. I would also recommend a custom 404 page for your visitors. Let me know if you need any further advice.
