    the reason its called search engine optimization is because theres a lot of "optimization" to tend to. there is the sandbox, keyword serps, and tons of other stuff that takes effect. the best way to get threw your "newbie stages"(no offense), you need to start with something small, list it on google webmasters and analytics, and understand how google is reading your site.
