So if I charge a fee for reviewing if a website is qualified for my directory, my directory could get penalized? What if I wanted to hire a group of reviewers/moderators and wouldn't the best way to fund is them is through reviewing fees? Would it make any difference if I was to charge review fees for only approved websites? Thanks in advance, -DigiP
I really don’t think you need to worry about getting penalized; I have a directory that was penalized. Charging for a review is fine as long as you approve only quality websites. It’s my belief that the directories that where hit was for over promotion. I have sent you a PM. Thanks Brian
Charging for a review fee is fine as stated by Matt Cutts. Charging a listing fee is not fine, that will lead to a penalty of some kind.
Review fees are acceptable as everyone above me noted. Now if you start loading up your directory with a bunch of paid footer links, then your risk of getting penalized gets much greater.
Hi, I think a review fee is a fee charged by directory owners for reviewing whether or not your website pass their prerequisites for getting listed. I also have a few questions ... 1. Can anybody give me examples of paid footer links? 2. What is the rationalization behind yearly fees? isn't charging a yearly fee the same as charging for placement since the website had already passed the review? Thanks in advance, -DigiP
