Hello, I have a Sony Vaio laptop computer. It has wifi on it (for wireless Internet etc). The wifi seems to connect fine to public wifis. But when I try to connect to my home wifi, however, the browser isn't able to browse the Internet. It says the wifi is connect and excellent strength. Everything seems fine. But the browser says "detecting proxy settings" and gets stuck there. It then says page not available. I've tried IE and Firefox. But when I connect to the Internet in other ways, via a modem card, for example, everything works fine. It just doesn't connect to the home wifi (and I know I've entered the password correctly). All the other computers in our house are connecting fine with the wifi, just my laptop isn't working. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem so that my home wifi works?
Sounds like you're browser is trying to use a proxy that requires authentication. Check you settings in IE and disable any proxies that are listed then try again.
do you normally use a proxy? Why are both of your browsers set to use a proxy? (that seems odd to me.. using a proxy without knowing it...) But none the less, international is right, check your proxy settings in firefox and IE.
Its due to the fact that your browser is taking proxy.. Try using to connect using another laptop if its successful. Format you laptop then try to connect will now.
Reset all the setting and try all the things step by step it will work..Or first try on some other laptop.
Try to enable Auto detect proxy settings option in your Browsers. I hope this will solve your issue or if you enabled it and still getting same error then it must be a configuration problem to solve this try to reset all your network settings in your laptop and re-configure it for your wireless Network
It seems like you have to set up wifi modem setting on your laptop. I also use Sony VAIO, and I had to do those settings before I was able to use wifi on my laptop!
I had to come back to this thread because these answers are just so funny but also I wanted to try to make sure that you know what's real and what's just plain stupid. 1. There is no such thing as a WiFi modem. In the WiFi world we call any point of interconnect an Access Point. Even CDMA, 3G, and WiMax all use access points, not modems. 2. Resetting all your configuration settings then putting them all back to the way it was is like having a flat tire and changing it with another flat tire. You'll just end up with the same result all over again. 3. My personal favorite is the goon who suggested you reformat. So you reformat, you reload all your software, and still you find that there is a proxy server that wants you to authenticate...hmm doesn't seem like a very smart use of your time now does it. Autodetect proxy may work but it will only work to detect that a proxy exists. I'd assume that you already have that setting enabled since your browser is requesting authentication to the proxy server. All you need to do is either; 1. Disable all proxies in your browser. If you still get asked to authenticate, contact your ISP because it's their own proxy that is getting in the way. 2. A bit more technical. Do a traceroute to identify the IP address of the proxy server. Go to the web page of that proxy service and request a resend of your username and password. Once you get them enter the details into your socks 4/5 settings.
