Its really easy to get below 500,000. I did nothing special , just added content to my blog and submitted to social bookmaking like digg, stumble , technorati , blog catalog etc

and I got my ranking a little over 300,000 in no time

 

Yup, it's quite easy. Create good content and let others link to your site. If you got SEO-optimized everything, you can get in top 500k.

 

Mine wentup from ~300,000 to 281640 , its a self hosted wordpress blog

Good job! I have been having problems with Alexa? I posted a directory here for free submissions a few days ago that had a rank of 3,309,528 and today it ranks 997,138 and was getting about 100 hits a day for the last few days, but my other site that gets about 200 - 700 hits a day has ranked 2,623,784 for the longest time?

Alexa rankings don't make that much of a difference. It's really almost like endorsing spyware.

 

My Alexa rank is 188,927

 

Alexa is so random, you can't really go by it. Alexa only counts users who have the toolbar installed. So if you don't have it installed then it wont count your users. That's why "web master" blogs tend to have really good alexa even if the traffic is rather bad.

 

Alexa ranking can be manipulated. Don't rely too much on that.

Alexa is really easy to get by 500,000 mark depending on the kind of traffic your targeting, many blog readers/webmasters will have alexa rnak bar installed so you will get a nice alexa rank but around 300 uniques a day will get you a 500,000 alexa rank.

 

There has to be more to it that that. I was getting up to 4000 uniques per day and never broke 285,000 or so. I still get 1500 or so and now I have dropped to 1.5 million. I think that a large percentage of visitors to my site bounce and that lowers the score.

It's not just how many people come, it's also what they do when they get there.
