Can't access Cpanel to my websites from server

My root domain on my server expired and I don't want it any more but the websites on my server are still using it's domain as a name servers.

    Example.

    ns1.example.com
    ns2.example.com

I can gain accress to WHM but not to the Cpanels of my websites could it be the expired root domain causing the problem and if so how do I sort the problem out?

    Thanks!

let say maindomain.com is expired, but you could access cpanel with domain.com/cpanel for any domain hosted on this server, even if main domain is expired.

If you are using the nameservers of expired domain, all your web sites which are using these nameserver will go down. You will need to setup another nameservers from WHM.

For example, if example.com is expired, you can not use ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com as nameservers. You will have to use live domain to setup nameservers.

It's been expired since the 25th March, and the websites that are on the server seem to be fine apart from there cpanel no longer loads.

It seems that others site are still running because of the propagation time or the nameservers are still not removed from your registrar's DNS server. Once your domain is removed from their registry I believe your sites will stop working. I suggest to setup separate nameservers at this point. Because once the namservers go down your web site will not function properly for 24-48 hours.
