I have one Canon digital camera A530. I want to try out video editing using the stored viedeo file in the camera and free AVI editors downloaded from internet. I have editors like PERSONAL AVI EDITOR, VIRTUALDUB, WAX etc. While trying to insert the avi file from the hard disk in the editors window, I see black rectangle or a cross indicating that the video has not been taken in. Is there anything wrong in the file created by the canon digital camera ? The extension is AVI. Thes avi files can be played in the media player software without problem, but not being accepted by the editors. Are there different types of avi files? I have tried matching the frame rate of recorded avi file ( 10 per second ) with the options in the ediors. It does not help. What could be wrong? The editors have option of selecting bmp files or avi files for editing or creating a new video. Can anyone suggest something? Chiplonkar
Its mostly to do with the codecs which have been used to create the avi. These links should give you some basic understanding of the subject: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/what_codecs_to_use.cfm http://www.manifest-tech.com/media_pc/avi_formats.htm
jbladeus is right, it's a codec for sure...which one I have no idea I have the same problem with my Canon Elph So what I do is import the AVI from the camera into Windows Movie Maker, then save the file as a DV-AVI and then I can edit that avi in any editor...an extra step but it works for me
