Cannot use referral domain name to main website?

    Hello there,

I was advised by a web design guy to buy a few domain names which contain a description of the company in the domain name, and then link that to the main website.

At the moment, i'm set up like this. (they are in example form)

    www.strangecompanyname.com
    (main website)

    www.whatwedo.com
    www.somethingwedo.com
    www.anotherthingwedo.com
(when you visit any of these website, it's goes to www.strangecompanyname.com)

I want to now capitalize on the google relevancy reward system by advertising using my 3 descriptive domain names. These then point to my main website once clicked.

However, you can't do this. Google doesn't allow you to advertise a referred link.

    Is there anyway around this?

Is it deemed 'illegal' to have the same webpage on all 4 sites? (i'd rather not do this)

What about have the index.html of each of the 3 referral domains a short descrption and then an 'enter' button, which links to my main site

I'm very interested in your replies

    Best regards,

    Coogie

Are you using AdWords, or are you going for natural listings?

Are you using server based redirects, or page based (ie. meta-refresh)?

    Thanks for your reply

I am using Ad words at the moment

I would also like to make a natural rise in the search engines, but i'm tackling the adwords first. Perhaps the extra domain names will be useful in trying to climb the google ladder?

I am redirecting it with a .htaccess on the server for each of the domain names. Is this illegal to do ? Google has disapproved the ads because of this

i am not looking to use the domain to point to the same key words. the key words will be seperated

I think if you put www.strangecompanyname.com as your destination in the ad copy, it should work. you have to put the FINAL destination page after any redirects into this field.

so it's not 'illegal' to do this:

    Ad title with some word
    some word description
    -displayed URL- www.someworddomain.com

    Actual URL - www.strangecompanyname.com

Is this illegal to do? I really don't want to get any negative from google adwords, i'm trying to do this to strengthen my keywords

    Thanks for the help

It seems you cant do it like that. Is there any way around this?

    http://adwords.blogspot.com/2008/02/update-to-display-url-policy.html
    -------
In line with our existing policy, we will continue to require that your ad's display URL match its destination URL (the URL of your landing page).

For example, if your destination URL is www.google.com, your display URL must also be www.google.com. The following would not be acceptable display URLs for an ad for www.google.com:
www.google.co.uk - because this URL leads to a different site
www.gogle.com - even though this URL simply redirects to www.google.com it is still not acceptable
www.gooogle.com - because this URL leads to a page showing content identical to www.google.com
    -------------

You have to have www.strangecompanyname.com as the display url because that is the final destination.

using this method is not "illegal"... you will not get arrested for doing it, but Google does not allow it and its against their TOS.

The final destination URL needs to be the display url

    example

    Ad title with some word
    some word description
    -displayed URL- www.StrangeCompanyName.com
    Redirect 1 www.redirect1.com
    Redirect 2 www.redirect2.com
    Redirect 3 www.redirect3.com
    Redirect 4 www.redirect4.com
    Actual URL - www.strangecompanyname.com
