Did you submit to the best category and follow the guidelines in doing so? If you did, then there is no way to really tell if you can or can not get listed...

The next step after submitting is to forget about it and move on to submitting to the next free directory. If you want to fret over not getting listed in a directory, fret about all the ones you are not getting listed in ;)

Here's a tip, dont use Dmoz as its a thing of the past and a waste of time. Submissions never get approved and when they do they are biased.

The only thing I can suggest if you really want to get in Dmoz is find out who is reponsible for updating sites to that category and blackmail/persuade them to adding your site. I think it's the only way now.

If you have a look at some of the sites listed in Dmoz they are such poor quality too, there I said it. Rant over.

You will heard loads of time from now '' follow the guidelines '' :) well ... are just some words trust me ! You are not only one who's trying to get some answers at some questions , none will give you any answer , none will help you and wrost when you will try to mining more into this you will start having warnings / posts deleted / threads closed ;) personal experience . My suggestion ? if you really wanna have a link on some directories just go to yahoo and pay for it , even if you are looking to pay for a link on DMOZ its seems none will answer to you because they aren't get this official . Still there on odp/dmoz directory are links which are breaking their own so claimed well '' guidelines '' . Good luck !

Maybe ! but there are guidelines to be follow by everyone , and all of this peoples who we try to consider them honest claiming that's never happened or will happens :) ... so ... , Also most of editors who's visit this forums claiming the directory its clean / have only valuable links there , unique and so on . Who will trust you or me or anyone who will say other things ? I`m telling you : NONE , you know why ? because you or me and usually peoples who visit this forums can get easy warning and can get easy banned , can get our posts and threads deleted , and so on ... you know .. '' one hand wash another one ... and both the face - an old proverb ;) ''

    Bad advice. Seriously bad advice.
Attempting to bribe or coerce editors is very likely to lead to a permanent DMOZ ban on all your sites, and any editor found to be accepting "payment" in any form immediately loses their account.

It's very simple: the ODP is not a listing service, so there is no way of forcing it to be one. There are many other directories which are listing services, so if that is what you want, try one of them.

I've been trying for quite a while now as well. Suggestion -- re-submit once every 6 months to a year, and other than that let it be!

Tsk tsk. Our submission guidelines require that you suggest it just once to the one best categoriy (and also outline our attitude to spammers). OK, so one extra submission after say 6-12 months have passed won't trip the wire, but more than that might.

Apologies, but I personally have only tried twice within the last 2 years. I have followed all submission guidelines, and after a years time with no response, not even a simple "We can't accept your site", I fail to see why applying again would hurt anything. The site I submitted is my hosting company, and I don't see any reason for it to be rejected. If I was anything remotely close to a spammer, I'd be submitting on a weekly/monthly basis.

Is it truly an open directory, seems fairly closed to me! Perhaps a rejection letter is well in order for sites you cannot accept into the directory? If I would have received one of these, I wouldn't have thought twice about applying again.

Here's a site found that is a parity to the DMOZ directory

It's not mine, so please don't give an infraction for spamming.

closeddirectory.org I just like how the site operates.

See my post above, where I reminded people that
Suggestions received from non-editors are nothing more than one resource volunteers can use to build the directory if they feel like looking at those suggestions. So why on earth should we waste our time responding to those who made the suggestions, when our time is far better spent finding good sites to list??

And the fact that the Open Directory Project is not what you would like it to be does not mean that it is not fulfilling its mission. ;)

You're telling us that editors only look at suggestions if they feel like it? Isn't that breaching the social contract?
Here is what I read on the social contract page: "We will make every effort to evaluate all sites submitted to the directory."

    Yes, that's it exactly.
We will "make every effort" as a community of volunteers. But there are many other things on which we can also spend our time.
Reviewing suggestions is only one editing activity, and as individual volunteers we are naturally free to spend our editing time as we wish. :)

it has gone more than 1 year and i submitted my site twice but still i am not in DMOZ,
now i also think that they are so care less, even i never get a single mail also that you will be listed or your link is not accepted, its not a symbol of good directory.

It's clear from your post here that you did NOT submit your site in compliance with the guidelines. Is it truly any wonder that you do not have a listing?

    I can't disagree with that ;)

'' finding good sites to list '' include there links from free geocities sites with amazon affiliate not updated since they was created ( more than 7 years ago !!!! ) ? or maybe links who's clones of part of girls community ( currently redirect link !!! ) ? or maybe sites who promote MLM / get rich schemes ? , anyway this type of links are still on ODP even after I got infractions there and the threads closed when I try to figure how on the name of god they can be listed there .
