Cannot Decide on a Niche - Advice?

I have 2 or 3 ideas for a site I would like to start, I don't want to get into details but I am torn between these ideas:

    - Video Game News/Reviews
    - Diet/Fitness

I know both are saturated, but I think with my current experience I can work my way into a monetized site in 12-18 months.

    make 2 sites.

give them 6 months and equal effort.

sell off the one that you think makes less money.

    problem solved.

Yes, I already have 5-10 authentic articles for each too. I would say these are the two topics I am very knowledgable about, and would enjoy writing about.

My only concern is competition, with sites like bodybuilding.com and ign.com.

I would start both, because it gives you variation, some days i find it easier to write about one niche than i do another one, i sometimes have a great week of putting out good content on one of my blogs, and leave another in the background, then get back to that one.

Because you dont know what will happen in the future, id go for seperate blogs and do both as opposed to choosing just one.

Do you know what. The biggest niche at the moment is the mobile niche.

Mobile phone websites experienced the fastest growth in the number of UK visitors using PC's/Laptops over the past year with a 58% increase in unique UK visitors from 7.7 million in July 2008 to 12.2 million in July 2009. Almost doubled in the space of year and set to do it again. The controversial mobile phone directory 118800 was another website that saw massive traffic increases. As have the mobile phone recycling initiatives.

Yeah. Just make 2 of that sites.
Run both of them, if you think you can manage both of the sites, you can still run that, but if you don't just sell one of the website that gives you less money

Should I start with something free like blogger, then move to a domain in a few months, or just wait until I can afford to buy both domains?

No. It's a bad idea to start with a free domain and then switch to your own custom domain months later because the free domain will have been indexed and when you switch to your own custom domain you are going to have to work on getting that domain indexed all over again. It's always best to start with a domain name first. You can .info's for like $3 and .com's for like $6.

I agree. It's so cheap to just get your own domain, I see no reason to start with lowered expectations. You don't start a business with the attitude of "just in case I don't make it".
I mean we are talking about $20 for a domain and hosting...if you can't scrounge that up, then you aren't ready to start a business.

Hey there, the best advice I would give to you is choose ONE not both. I know others above have suggested both and that's cool. I say choose one that you are most clued up about and then stick to it! I find people often get a little confused and overwhelmes with having more then 1 niche (that's just my opininion). My mentor always stipulated to stick to one as people get distracted too easily when having more then one. Then maybe after a couple months do the next niche. It's sooo easy to get dolphin syndrome! Goodluck
