I had deleted my WP installation and all the relevant files, including the .htaccess file, and uploaded a new index.htm file. The site is here: http://www.enviardineroa.com/ Now instead of getting the index.htm page, I just get the blank directory listing. Do I need to make a new .htaccess? If so, what should I put in it?
I am getting the directory listing for the root directory. That means you have no files there. Try uploading a new htm or html page to the public_html folder. Some severs call it htdocs. Tell us what control panel you have and some one will tell you where to put the file.
Ugh! I could scream. Here's what happened: earlier today I had used filezilla to log into ftp.enviardinera.com -- at least, that's the ftp address I put in the box on the form. But, I accidentally entered the username and password for another site on the same whm virtual reseller account, ftp. enviardineroaperu.com I never thought this could happen, but it logged me into ftp.enviardineroaperu.com (WTF? Why does it log me into the other ftp site if I have a different site's domain entered into the login form?) I also did the same thing with cpanel. Assuming that the wordpress files I saw were from an old trial installation, I deleted all of them. In reality, I was deleting the entire website for enviardineroaperu.com, which I had spent a few hours setting up yesterday (mostly writing articles and making tweaks to the wp templates). I hadn't made any backups yet, so all that work is gone now. Why do they even have the site name ftp field on the ftp form if it'll just send you to whatever site goes with the password? It's like you try the wrong key to the front door of your house and you end up in your office or your car instead.
The FTP hostname is translated into IP address, so it's the login that matters which account would be used for virtual accounts on the same server.
