    Hi

I am wondering if anyone has any success with having a double hyphen domain name rank well on Google???

Anyone have example in Top 5 results for competitive keywords?

    Example

    www.i-wish-tobe1.com

I have a project I am looking at but feel the URL is not going to do well.

    Thank you for the help...

the hyphens have nothing to do with it. if anything it helps google seperate the keywords.

Yes! Kianah, you are so very right about that. Those hyphens only separate the keywords and has nothing to do with ranking high because if that is the case, all URLs and SEO would have been a battle of hyphens and no more.

Another thing is that Google still sees it even if you put together two words as they have it distinguished with URLs that have two words joined together sop there really is no use. Links and SEO and many other factors will help you rank high in the search engines and not hyphens.

In my personal experience, they have no effect on search engine positions and may in fact improve CTR for AdWords as they are easier to read.

Actually some words blend together like:

    www.paintballsextreme.com

and in this case you would want hyphens

    1) so that google doesn't get confused and extract "sex" from the url

    2) messes with peoples brains and looks confusing when they look at the url

www.paintballs-extreme.com is a lot easier to read.

suggestion: buy both domains and point the non hyphenated one to 301 redirect to the hyphenated one :) this way you dont los traffic from people forgetting to put in the hyphens. Solved both problems. Also you dont have to tell people your url is www.paintballs hyphen extreme.com - keeps people from thinking you're retarded picking that domain name when you really are smart. ;)

My double hyphenated pet site has low PR but some reasonable serps:

1 out of 1,280,000 for picking from litter,
    4 of 1,410,000 for choosing a puppy,
2 out of 1,700,000 for bringing puppy home,
1 out of 1,950,000 for four legged friends - though four-legged-friends.com is the name of the site so that last one doesn't really count. :)

I don't think the hyphens have made any difference to the site at all really and would buy a hyphenated domain name again if I found one I liked.

Thank you and all the others.

And yes I know four-legged-friends doesn't count but it's working for you :)

    Peace!

Wow SEO on Puppy sites? thats the best job in the world!

I agree too, my sites with hyphens have never reacted any different to those without.

Double dashes should not be a problem at all. One of my main sites uses double dashes and typically places anywhere between #2 and #5 for a moderately competitive phrase.

    You're in luck.

Although it might confuse visitors, you're ok with the Search Engines.

Double hyphen domains aren't treated any differently. Anymore hyphens looks a bit spammy though IMHO.

i think that depents on the power of your backlinks but in my opinion, it will be difficult people to remember with double - domains

I have started to see double hyphens like: my--domain.com. Personally I hate urls like this.

as long as you're not looking for type-in traffic the hyphens are probably preferable.
