Cancel EIN number

    I have my EIN number but I have never started my business and I do not
    have any employees. How do I void or cancel my EIN number?

    I google'd and found some things, but I am only 18 so I am a tax NOOB so I need step by step baby instruction. :)

    Are they sending you 941s? heh, if you ignore those eventually they will send a form asking about the status of the business. But to be proactive, here's the instructions from the irs site:

    The EIN can not be umm removed. The business account can be closed though.

    I just signed up for an EIN for the purpose of affiliate programs, but I have not gotten 1 penny from any affiliate site, and I just want to cancel it so I don't have to fill out crap during tax time

    If you didn't earn over like $400 you don't have to claim it on the 1040 schedule C.

    Are you sure? So this means I don't have to fill ANYTHING out (relating to the EIN that is)?

    Same thing happened here...I accidentally just signed up for an EIN number for an affiliate program because
    I misread the instructions.And I haven't even made a buck.
    Problem is,I'm on SSI so I hope I don't get in trouble with my benefits.
