Hello everyone, I'm thinking about creating a site/forum regarding a specific sport (tennis) for canadians (.ca domain). Would this be too risky in terms of gaining a lot of unique visits/revenue? A .US is a different story considering most websites get most of there revenue from the U.S. Also the .com, .net and .org of the domain I want is taken (all parked though)...will a lot of ppl confuse the url with a .com? What do you all think? Thanks
If your site is geared completely towards tennis in Canada, then a .ca will work perfectly. I would start by checking out the membership of certain tennis organizations (ota for example). That will give you an idea of the "hardcore" tennis players in Canada, and then figure that maybe 1-5% of them will be interested in posting to your forum. If that number is high enough for you to run a decent forum, then go for it. Otherwise, maybe you should expand your focus. If you do value added things (such as organize forum matches at local courts, etc) then you can help to increase your membership offline, which I would say is your best bet. Good luck though, .ca is just as big as .com in Canada, but you are right that outside of Canada its a no no.
