I'm not here to poke holes but 20% of $1.98/month is about $0.40 a month ($4.80/year) I can't see it taking off to be honest, don't get me wrong theirs nothing wrong with low paying affiliate programs if the markets there and its well presented but the hosting website bored me to death, too much info at once and hard to read. A good example of a very successful hosting company would be Media Temple, look how clean and easy it is to read: http://www.mediatemple.net/webhosting/gs/ HostGator has a good paying affiliate program (upto $125 per sale) but the problem with the hosting market is I find it can be subject to higher than average refunds compared to other sectors.
Your counting 20% of just 1 sale, for the smallest plan we have available, and the lowest term (1 month), which most people go for the other plans. On top of that, HostGator won't be paying you a recurring amount, once you get the commission, that's it. As far as I know, we've never had to refund any of our customers. Our website isn't an entertainment site, sorry it doesn't meet non-boring standards. We provide a quality service, and we're not trying to prep it up merely by "looking nice". FYI, you're comparing an 8 yr old company to a 1 yr old one, and we've been very successful thus far.
