Is there anyone of you who has made his or her hobby as your business profession?

Please share your thought on this point.

I do think a lot of businesses start off as a hobby. I am a director of a UK web development company and website design started as just a hobby for me a few years ago but now I am confirming 6 figure contracts with major companies.

It is all about believing in yourself and your product or service. It is a major step giving up your 9-5 job and starting your own business. With your own business there is no such thing as 9-5 anymore.

Yes, you do whatever it takes to make your business work. After all if you do not bring in the money then you and your family starve.

Web design and development used to be a hobby now i've turned it into a living. I've seen a lot of sites where people have turned their interests into income starting niche-related community sites or blogs for example. Your options are limitless.

Sure it can become a business. I have a friend who is drawing cartoons and comic books. He started the whole thing just like that. It is still his hobby, but now he manages to earn money from it. Cool, isn't it?

There are many good examples of that. Most of the social networks have started their existence as some sort of a home project among friends.

I think a huge amount of businesses - successful businesses - were peoples' hobbies before they became something that brought in money. Even before the internet, that was true (can't remember.. no internet?? faint memory...)

Someone who has a hobbie, usually has a passion for the subject. Hence, it's easy to turn it into a business (note I'm not saying it's isn't lots of work - just more rewarding!!!)

A quote from the old, but always inspire me:

The biggest mistake people make in life is NOT making a living at doing what they most enjoy.
