Hello, I have a unused domain name in Godaddy.com and I can't host it there because I have economy plan and already have one site up. So, can I use any good free web hosting to host my unused domain. Do I need to transfer? Most free website has add-on or subdomains option available. I am not sure how I can use my unused site from Godaddy to host on a free web hosting serviice. Please advice me igf you have any experience with this. Thanks
Why don't you just host it on your main paid hosting account? Most providers allow multiple domains, or at least they should! Yes though, to answer your question, you can use free hosting to host your domain, there are plenty of free domain hosting providers around, Google will yield some positive results
I have a economy hosting plan and they won't allow multiple hosting with that plan. Also can you suggest me a good free hosting service? Also, Do I need to transfer my existing domain from Godaddy to the free hosting account? or just change nameserver? I just bought the new domain from here, and I don't think Godaddy will allow me to transfer it again. Thanks
Hiya , When you change providers you only need to change the nameservers. If you need some hosting through me a PM and i'll see what i can do
I will add my domain add subdomain right? Also, I bought this domain yesterday, and the seller sent me all the files and database but for some reason it is still up. It has been transferred to me but I haven't created any database and have no hosting setup, then why is it still up? Seller is not replying to my msgs lol And how do you login into this darn thing Thanks
Likely what you're experiencing is that the nameservers are still the same on the domain which are pointing to where it was hosted, and that hosting must still be active. If the nameservers have been changed, then likely it's DNS propagation (takes 0-72 hours for ISP's to propagate the new information), and within time the site will either be inaccessible unless you change the nameservers to your hosting provider and prepare the hosting account.
When I restore my sql in byethost, it says "Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes". Does anyone know any free hosting services which provides more packet size? Thanks
I could probably refer you to BigDump, its a script that will restore your SQL in chunks rather than all at once, it should help with the issue your having: http://www.ozerov.de/bigdump/
There may be the case that your host would not allow bigdump script due to security reasons. So, you should try to do it partially but dividing script in multiple sql files or ask DB admin to provide you backup of tables separately.
Any host these days will host it for you for free. ~And most of them will host it ad free, unlike godaddy. All that you will have to do is change your nameservers to new ones, which your host will provide.
I didn't get... Do you need a hosting recommendation, or just wanna know the opportunity? For the first, I do not recommend using any free hosting for any serious projects. Maybe even parking would bring you more. Second, sure you can use a free hosting, many of them do allow TL domains, but do not transfer it, just change nameservers.
