I have used paypal for a long time and when I sell something it gives someone a reference number, today someone has given me this reference number and I cannot find their payment just by looking, is there anyway to track it with this reference number? Otherwise whats the point of having one?

    Thanks for any help.

Are you talking about transaction id  If yes then its easy for them (paypal) to lookinto the matter through transaction number quickly.

BTW you can search through your email account (paypal email account) for that particular transaction id.

    DON.

Yes I was talking about transaction i.d and I wondered if I could find the payment with any kind of search with the i.d without contacting paypal. I will trawl through my emails and see if I can see it but as I say I cannot find the payment they are talking about and they are threating me with trading standards blah, blah, I can't help if I can't find payment as I get many daily and nothing in their name is showing.

As far as I know, you cannot make a seach based on 'transaction ID'. PayPal uses it to handle disputes, track payments etc....you would have to go through all the transactions to find the one they are talking about. It'll easy for you to find it if you can ask the other person to send over the details like - date, amount, name, email used.

double check your receipts in your paypal account and tell them you haven't received the payment if you haven't find any info. Why do you worry much about that ?

Ask them to provide you the screenshot for the payment they have made you. if they sent verify with your paypal statement whether you received it. if you haven't find it then contact Paypal. if they did anything wrong they are going to face problems. not you :)
