I have a client that's website is down and they don't host through me. Id there any way to see when it went down or just wait till tomorrow when the analytics populate and look there?
You should try using an uptime/service monitor such as Hyperspin.com or Pingdom.com that can track downtime for services.
I'd check out Netcraft first here: http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/accuracy.html They may or may not be listed. Good luck!
There are few paid services on the net which informs immediatelly as soon as server is down and up. You have to search net for a cheaper service. In our opinion, even these paid services are not much reliable; but their services can be obtained. NetMechanic is one of the good service provider. Good luck Regards, Toniya
Thank you all for your responses I will look into a few you have mentioned above and see what works best for the client (if they even care) I really wanted to be able to keep track for my own benefit but probably not important enough to pay for a service but we'll see. Thanks again
Sorry to bump an old thread, however this thread ranks well for "how long has this site been down", and none of the responses covered the easiest solution if its a site you have analytics access for... Filter analytics to only show today's metrics, then select to view traffic hourly (normally you probably view daily/weekly/monthly)... You don't have to wait for analytics to update the next day, especially if its a high traffic site. You'll see in the hourly graph roughly which hour the site went offline and how long it hasn't been receiving traffic for. HTH!
