hi there we have redesigned my site and are trawling through the SE results to see what pages need redirecting. It's getting a bit confusing and to cut to the chase: can you redirect several old pages to just one destination or does this cause some penalty/problem... eg i have an old page called www......./forecast.html, an old page called www...../specialized-natal.html and an old page called www...../love-compatibility.html Can you redirect all 3 to the one portal page, called for example www...../astrology-readings ? or not? i am not concerened with losing out on page rank as the old site was only at page one anyway !! most pages we know where to redirect to, others we are unsure of as have lost track of things so it would be easier to redirect several to one, new page but we wondered if this was a "no-no"? thanks in advance
You should only redirect pages to pages that have the same content. I don't believe it would be helpful to direct them all to one page.
the old pages that need redirecting are all for different types of astrology reports.....i have now set up a brand new "portal" page on the website and wanted to redirect the old pages to this one, new portal page.........mainly because we simply cant remember what the url's for the revamped pages USED to be so it's getting confusing ! but also because it's more convenient. basically several of the old pages would go to one new page, but the topic is all the same - astrology readings i just mainly wanted to know if there was some SE penalty for doing this or is perfectly acceptable to do it?
