Can you protect against rivals abusing your PPC?

Or do you just accept that it will happen?

If I set a budget, how do I know that someone with a changing dynamic IP address is not just clicking on my ads to wipe me out?

I'd be very grateful for an answer.

    Best wishes

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about this. However, to go through all that work of changing IPs is a bit on the extreme side.

Hey, if you have a doubt, you can easily contact adwords and tell them about it. Be sure to use a tracker on your landing page, so that, you can tell google if the visitor's ip matches from the country you targeted or not, and then, if you're incurring huge fraud clicks, then track down the proxies.

Yea thats a big problem with adword, a lot of shady people clicking on ads with no intention of even purchasing or viewing anything on the site.

nothing you can do about it really - I've never had it happen to me though and as far as I know it doesn't happen in general

People clicking on your ads would be rather stupid since that will only increase your CTR and therefore reduce your cost per click...

I'd be more concerned about competitors...
    - Setting up fake ads for your website to get it a bad QS (anyone can advertise under your address and therefore decrease your CTR with shitty ads)
    - Randomly causing impressions to your ads without clicking on them to decrease your CTR and therefore your QS.

I thought Google was limiting the number of ads with the same URLs. But to come back to the original question, I don't think there's much you can do about this problem. It's just one of the drawbacks of using PPC advertising.

No it's just going to impact your QS badly. I.e. if I open a campaign for your domain name your QS will automatically drop significantly. If my CTR is bad your QS will decrease even further.

Make sure you have some sort of analytics on your website. You can go in if there is a spike in clicks that are suspicious and investigate your traffic.

From my experience the cases of true click fraud that can not be detected by Google are very small.

If there is no clear way to prevent it then it seems like we should just learn to deal with it (for the very few cases in which click fraud does happen).

Then again, if someone does have a proven methodology for combating fraud clicks I would be glad to hear it.

I am have similar problem now. I have adds targeted to a small region an am getting 60-70% CTR ratio. I suspect my competition is getting people to search for and click these ads.

I don't understand. How would someone go about causing impressions to a competitor?
