Hey, About 3 months ago I built a dumb site for fun. It was one of those where my hosting company let me use a free design program to build it. It looks HORRIBLE. I knew zip about SEO. The meta descriptions have NOTHING to do with the content. My titles are SO PATHETIC. The content is garbage. There are literally like 100 ads per page. This thing is really, really bad. So after I had fun making the dumb thing over a couple of days I left it alone. I got Dreamweaver, started reading on here, and I think I kind of know what I am doing now. I'm still struggling, but learning from you all. Today I looked at some numbers on that dumb first site I made. I was shocked. It is getting a lot of google traffic. It has like 6 pages, and it is placing high in serps for TONS of long tailed key words. It is also placing first page on one heavily competed single word kw. I think I placed about 20 backlinks in total to that site. So the on-page seo is crap. The off-page seo is pathetic. The content is garbage. Yet google loves it. What the heck is going on?????? Oh yeah, one one major 2 kw string, the 2 keywords are in the meta description, but never appear in the content. Yet it is first page in serps. What's up??????

I understand. I was just hoping that someone had experienced something similar. I don't want to post the url here for personal reasons. Have you ever heard of anything anywhere similar to this?
it can be due to some good backlinks in related area or a sudden spike that will not last long. it happens sometimes. one of my site bacame number 2 in google for a highly compatitive one word keyword that returns 52 million search results. i made some good money for a week, then its nowhere to be found again. i did nothing for over 2 years with that site
