ok so today in class we were discussing DNA and all that stuff. We saw this one video about how an individual can now patent strands of DNA that code for certain protiens. Why they do this is becuase that protien may be helpful for industrial usage. But here is the thing, you can patent that coding of DNA it self, and then the protien that the DNA codes for. So now you have the right of property over that protien and strand of DNA, which the law now claims your "intellectual property" becuase you were the one who found it. Which I think is absolutely ridiculas. So soon enough the entire human genome will be patented. And so corporations will own parts of man kind. Becasue as we know DNA is the coding of life. Do you think this should be allowed. Becuase now if someone owns a protien, that every human has normally, shouldn't 6 billion people have to legally pay that person for the use of that protien? (which is absolutely ridiculas) And how can someone own something they never created? Its not thier invention right? They only read the coding. Now here is another thing. With in the US you can now patent anything just before a human baby. WHICH MEANS YOU CAN OWN LIFE!! For example if you found a way to differently breed mice or sheep, you can patent it/ and now you own that breed of mice or sheep! This in my mind if absolutly stupid, no way in helll should you be allowed to own life. BUT I DO THINK that you should have the right to the fact that you are now the only legal person to then use the breeding system. BUT you should not be allowed to own the breed/ animals it self.
