That's the problem though, Amazon are bidding on just about every keyword imaginable, across their entire inventory, so you are very hard-pushed to beat them at it, unless you can take a seriously low ROI. Also, they are direct-linking to their own site whereas you (supposedly) are linking to your own page and only then to Amazon, giving you less conversions.

Quite tricky, I haven't cracked it yet, but maybe there's a "secret" out there...

Beware of those who say you can make money and they have a convenient link in their signature to an eBook they're trying to sell, lol.

Can you really make money with Amazon and PPC? Sure, but just read and research the info for yourself online for FREE. Look for info on PPC and you should be set. These forums as well as numerous other webmaster forums and blogs have tons of FREE info on PPC, no eBook needed.

Really SamOwen? You're going to make a not-so-subtle slam at me and then end it with an "lol"? Good enough. And good for you for having the guts to make that comment while promoting a "how to make more money on forums and blogs" link in your signature.

Anyway, I've removed the link as I don't have time to answer future posts about my intentions on this forum. I think my contributions speak enough for themselves.

In response to your assessment that there's plenty of info on using PPC with Amazon, I have to disagree, at least when speaking about the content regarding the subject on this forum as of this date.

I have learned a lot on this forum and enjoy the sharing of information, etc. However, there are many issues about PPC with Amazon that have not been addressed, and I think that newbies reading these posts should know that there is MUCH more to know about the process than any of the posts will lead you to believe. Let me stress that PPC on Amazon is one of the hardest things to do successfully. I know this because I use PPC for many programs and Amazon has been the hardest nut to crack.

Here are the issues that are essential to master that have not yet been discussed in enough detail as of yet:

    1. How to find a product or niche that will make you profitable with Amazon and PPC. A lot of this is accomplished on the Amazon site. Even more is accomplished away from Amazon.

    2. In conjunction with item 1, how to correctly determine the competition for your product/niche. If you can't do this accurately, you will fail 99% of the time.

    3. How to write your adwords ads so that you attract mostly buyers, not people who just want to view the product.

    4. How to create a landing page that will convert more visitors. As you know, Amazon has a pretty good hold on PPC keywords out there, so landing pages are essential in order to sell most popular items.

    5. How to use other sources of PPC. Adwords is great, but why stop there?

Here's my story, just in case anyone cares how I learned all of this:

I started promoting Amazon products about 3 years ago. I put ads on my sites and didn't make more than a few bucks a month.

I then started using PPC for a couple months and lost a good amount of change.

3 months ago my friend wrote a manual on how to effectively use PPC with Amazon. It didn't make any outrageous claims, and because he's a guy I've followed for a while and trust, I bought and read it.

In October I made $100+. In November I made $500+. In December I made $5,000+.

It should be clear that a lot of what I needed to know was in the manual, and it contained information that has not come close to being discussed in any clear or detailed manner on any forum I have visited.

I think everyone understands that I can't just give away what's in the manual at no charge because it would undermine the efforts of the author, but I thought that since there was a discussion about Amazon and PPC on this forum that I would add a helpful link to my signature. I really wouldn't have stood to make anything off of the sales. Seriously, $6 a pop doesn't interest me. However, I know the product is the real deal because it worked big time for me. Last time I checked, advertisements are ok in the signatures and I think the ethical choices I made for mine are much more helpful and relevant than the junk so many others have in their signatures.

Finally, I busted my hump using the info in the manual. If I hadn't, I would have failed. This is hard work people, but once you find some good products and get that good return on investment it's all worthwhile.

I suggest that people start discussing at length the 5 points I listed above and we'll start seeing a lot more successful PPC affiliates out there. I've already starting doing this a bit in some of my previous posts and look forward to sharing and learning more with all of you.

    Cheers!

Reminder: the link to the manual has been removed from my signature. Anything that's there now is most likely unrelated to this subject.

Here an artile I think very useful for someone who have intention to use PPC:

Pay per click advertising no doubt is the great way of driving traffic to your site. It goes without saying that more traffic yields more sales. Therefore, it is one of the most effective ways to make money. To be sure that your PPC advertising brings you more sales you want. Here are some important things need to keep in mind for your PPC advertising.

    - First, know your product completely. Then only you will be able to give true service to your customer. The more you are aware of your product, the more you will in a position to explain the benefits of it to your customer in a proper manner.

    - Develop effective keywords list that attract the customer towards your product and prepare the ad with a creative copy which will help to convert the click in to sales. Just showing of ad is not enough. Your ad should be such that they tempt to click on it and make a purchase.

    - In PPC advertising don't spend more than what you make. Try to stay within your budget and decide a deadline for it.
Master the bidding process thoroughly. Have a clear understanding on how bidding process works. This bidding process will not only helps you in controlling your budget but also fix a right amount for each keyword.

    - Once you decide to spend money to get customer to buy your product make sure that you have effective landing site and the copy on your site is persuasive enough to make them buy your product.

    - Analyze your campaign regularly. Keep a track on which keyword is effective enough to make the customer buy. And those keywords which are not so effective make a variation in it and try to produce it in a better way. And still if those keywords are not working properly then stop using it. As it will be a loss for you.

    Best rgs!

Yeah, I never got anywhere with that, and it seems even more difficult now that they don't allow direct linking - one more step to convert=even less ROI. With a 4-6% commission you can't compete on the usual product name keywords, you'll get outbid every time, it's about thinking laterally and finding low-competition keywords that will still bring you potential buyers. But I think I'd rather do the same thing but on CJ, where you find much higher commissions.
