You can make money playing any game of chance, I make money playing roulette. The key is you have to know everything about the game, know exactly how the system works, and never get greedy. Which can be difficult when playing these types of games.

Well, the thing is simple. Poker, actually what we are talking about here is Texas Hold'em Poker, is gambling, cuz you really need luck to win sometimes. However, it's not pure gambling, as you make money by misleading other players on the same table, you need skills. Mark here, you make money from other players or you lose money to other players, and you always pay fees to house.

So, it's a gambling game, so what? Are you sure you are not gambling when you are doing affiliate marketing or other online marketing businesses? Ok, you set up a website, you pay budgets for google adsense to drive traffics. Are you sure you can definitely make money from this? Nope, you also need some luck. Do you think you only need luck to achieve your goals? Absolutely not, as we are also talking about skills. So, you need luck and skills to gain from poker playing, you also need luck and skills to gain from online marketing, now which one do you think is gambling, or, both of them? And finally we should face one fact, there are people making $xxk from online marketing every month, and there are people making $xxk from online poker every month.

So, to sum up, never ask "can you make money playing online poker", it's all like asking "can you make money by online marketing" or "can you make money by doing day job".

I've read three pages and so far not one person has mentioned the biggest scam in online poker, collusion. There are teams of players using MSN and other chat programs to tell each other their hole cards giving them all an unfair advantage over the straight players. When the collusion team determines which one has the best cards to play the hand then they will whipsaw raises back and forth to get as much money from the straight players as possible. The winner of the hand is usually one of the colluders. The prize money is split between the collusion team.

If you don't believe me go read about Richard Marcus, he will tell you all of the tricks used by cheaters playing online poker. What he will tell you will make you never want to play online poker ever again: http://www.richardmarcusbooks.com/blog.

I was skeptical at first, but 2 of my friends have made about $10,000 in online poker. No kidding, there's money to be made if you're good, I guess there are just a lot of dumb players online.

Of course you can. It takes skill though...if you're a newbie and you're winning, it's just luck.

As someone who has worked in the gaming industry for the better part of the last decade, take it from me: you can win, but you most likely won't. In casinos, the odds are stacked in the favor of the house. Eventually, you will always lose. In poker, the odds are stacked against you simply because you are an amateur and don't know how to play well and can't weigh the statistical odds of each hand properly. No, a poker calculator will not help you either. There are professionals that sit in poker rooms (usually in four or six rooms at once, actually) and wait for people like you to come in and help pay their rent.

Don't bet your hopes on gambling, you will always lose. Gambling should be taken as a way to pass a few hours and have a good time. Never put in more than you would in a night out at a bar.

It is great to hear someone sharing his experiences as an insider. Appreciate your candidness. Frankly speaking, it isn't difficult to know that gambling isn't something you can make money on (except for the casino operators). Work and maybe Work Smart are the ways of earning money. This was good advice in the past and will continue to be good advice even in the Internet era and beyond.

good to hear you appreciated my advice. for a lot of people, they really believe that they can beat the house and walk away rich rich rich. for a small percentage (infinitesimal small) this is true, but no more or less true than playing the lottery. if you think a good day job is playing the lottery, then perhaps this is the industry for you!

if you see the foolhardiness in this, then you will agree: keep gambling as something fun. work in something you love. if you happen to love gambling, then there are plenty of ways to make money through providing services to those that gamble or provide somewhere to gamble.

that's what i did :) i run uboodu, a design studio for the niche market of operators and software providers in the online gaming industry. i make out pretty well and dont have to hedge my bets at the end of the month.

    Why don't people get it?
When you play Poker, you aren't playing against the house.

However, I think if you start now, it's going to take you a lot of experience to profit from it. Chances are, you're better off investing that time into something with a higher chance in succeeding!

You are exactly right! As a former gambler, I can certify that the "bug" gets you and you believe you can beat the system. Most of us can't. The professionals love to see the amateurs coming. As an old pit boss in Las Vegas once said, "If I hear of a guy in New York who has 'a system' and a million dollars, I'll send a cab from Las Vegas for him!"

    Green rep coming.

Almost. The dealer takes a rake from every pot played so the house is making some money. Factor out their overhead (hourly wage of the dealer, table, space) and they are in the black but not as much as the other casino games like roulette, craps, blackjack and the rest.

If they can earn big buck playing poker online, why they are offering those trick for less than 100 bucks? ;)

If you are refering to "make money playing online game", my answer is a yes. Example, http://www.worldofkungfu.com ( upper left corner ). They are selling gold ( game credits ). $50 = 550 golds. A lot of players offering 550 golds for less than $40 if you can find them.

You don't need to gamble in order to withdraw the money you earn in the free roll.

But they only transfer money from your account to a card or e-wallet account which has previously been used to make a payment or deposit. Minimum deposit is $25

For example you already have $50 in your account after playing for free.
After you deposit $25 you can immediately cash out $75.

DON'T USE MASTERCARD! Due to card scheme rules they can't process MasterCard withdrawals.
You can use deposit but you can't withdraw using it.

Right. You can earn money playing poker. You earn just around minimum wage, if you are good. For the equal time and effort spent, you can learn and earn at something much more worthwhile.

Poker is a GAME and should be treated as such. Anything else is just irresponsible and infantile.

The ebooks aren't going to help you.
No system is going to help you.

Read some proper books...Brunson, Harrington etc. Start small, play lots of hands, practise, learn, practise, play more hands, read more.

If you like the game, then of course you can win. It's like any game the better players will win more, especially when you play more hands.

Realistically the number of people colluding and bots are smaller than the number of amateur poor players.

It's actually pretty big business now, and is more than a game.

The idea is to become a very good player and earn more than minimum wage.

Excellent players earn more than that.

Outstanding players can earn a lot.
