Is it possible to just buy and sell new domain names without promoting them? Do people still purchase them when there new? Mike
Hi Mike, i believe there are buyers for most things in life. It all depends if you have what someone else is willing to pay for. Although an older domain with PR and good history, would probably have more value than a brand new domain name.
It is possible to make some money if you choose the right name, but few people enough money to make it their full time job
It is possible, but not likely. Factors in play: -In the .com TLD most (though not all) of the domains that have value with nothing else attached have been taken. -Other TLDs just aren't worth as much to most people that buy domains (unless there is a specific reason) -Tightening copyright and trademark laws in most countries mean that it's hard to make money from large companies that want a specific domain -There are quite a few people that have been doing this for years, know exactly what they're doing, and don't leave a lot of worthwhile scraps for the rest of us That's not to say you might not grab up a few great finds in your lifetime, but it's very hard to go into that market and make enough to support yourself. Without adding content, most of the time people make very little per domain. Take into account domains you bought but couldn't sell, time to buy, time to list, etc... your margin gets smaller and smaller.
Domainig is much still way to go if you know how to market your domains to end users. One of my friend recently sold a domains for 2000 bucks which no one was buying for 50 dollars. Its matter of finding the right buyer.
Absolutely you can make money buying & selling domains. But if you want to sell them, you will need to promote them, eg. forums, etc.
