Can you guess my political party registration?

Well, since some people think they know what all members of certain political parties believe...

Can you guess my political party registration from the following statements? If you remember the time or two I said, please no hints.

I voted for bush. Twice. Even if he could be re-elected again, I wouldn’t vote for him unless he was up against Hillary.

The government has no business listening in on MY phone calls, or anyone else’s without a warrant.

    Small government is good government.

More states should raise a specific non opposable digit in the direction of D.C. and tell them where to take their federal money, and overwhelming non-funded initiatives, which they have no power to enforce, other than by not giving funding to said states.

No child should be left behind. However, those with the ability to run to the summit while the others walk shouldn’t be prevented from doing so to keep them ‘with the group’ simply because there aren’t enough talented teachers hired to race ahead to the summit with them.

IF you’re going to build bike trails in your city, make sure people don’t have to take a car to get to them, and that people can use their bike to go where they want to go. This is often as simple as actually building sidewalks, or requiring them to be built next to neighborhood streets rather than leaving the sidewalk till the house behind it is built.

Requiring gun owners to have some sort of certificate to show that they know how to handle a gun is usually a better policy than a waiting period… as otherwise you make people that already HAVE guns wait for them, and you still let people that don’t know how to use a gun get them.

So far the guess was incorrect. Thank you for the invite though Scheme. However I have yet to have anyone explain to me how they plan to overcome the fundamental paradox of pure communism. I.E. That in order to enforce that everyone owns everything, one must have a strong central government to distribute things, and that then, in effect, the government owns all of it.

You have to register to vote, but you don't have register with a political party.

People only do that to chose their primaries.

:p I know. I was just nit-picking a little to try to draw the guessing out. I am indeed registered as an independent.

    For a few reasons

I mix my votes far to often to really be considered a member of either of the major parties. I am still working on doing enough research to be able to reliably vote on every candidate in the GENERAL election. Also, according to some political discussions I've had in the past, some political philosophers actually state that a part of the party system is that if you belong to a party, you are obliged to vote the party line in the general. And because I like being able to look at people and tell them that I'm an independent darn it, and I won't be cajoled into voting for x, y, or z to be a 'loyal anything'.

Eh? That's a bunch of bunk. You can vote for whomever you want in the general election. Stamping R or D on your voter form, doesn't turn you into a robot.

They were talking on and on about how it was a part of the system from the beginning, and a lot of people kept refering me to them and saying I had an obligation this and obligation that... I figure being an independent is the best way to keep those people at bay, and tell me people ragging on me about those 'obligations' is what kept me from choosing a party. Might get them to thinking about telling people they had an obligation to vote the party line. Something I will NEVER do... unless for some strange reason on some improbable day, I do all the research and decide that the candidate I like in a given election is a member of X party... and they all happen to be members of the same party. Of course if that happens I'll start checking to make sure I'm not in black and white (reference to twilight zone).

You are pretty young, aren't you? You must be.

What people? I've never had a republican goon knock at my door demanding to know why I didn't vote for Harris on '06. I am not sure that whom I voted for could even be discovered?

I don't think I've ever done a party line vote in my life. Crazy. Whoever thinks all D's or all R's are great or crappy is just weird.

Oh, people that decide it's a good idea to tell people to vote all one way any time politics comes up. I haven't run into them for a while, but some people I talked to online for a while brought that subject up a lot.

Well I'm sure that there is pressure at unions. I know that my Mom, who's a member of a teacher's union gets political 'advice' from the union publications.

I realize that by joining a party, that means I get to vote one more time per year. However at this point I hold far to little in common with either political party's espoused views, and find far to much disfavor in either party to want to be a member of it.

That's how you change a party's direction to one you like ;). Pick a party and vote for the primary candidate that most agrees with what you'd like. Registering independent is a huge waste of time IMHO. You don't get to choose your first choice in a primary, you get the sloppy seconds, that other people think is the best. And you are left griping about both choices. That sucks.

:p How did I know that argument was coming?

I'm familiar with this point of view, I just don't ascribe to it. I'm still figuring out some of what I believe politically, and I don't want to be influenced by any subcontious loyalty to a political party.

Also, until recently, I was loosing about 2-6 hours of sleep a night right around the time generals OR primaries happened due to the fact that I was working on finals. So I'm just getting back into doing the research necessary to make me feel like I'm not polluting the vote pool. Especially since a lot of the time it's hard to find out much about a candidate before that period.

Adding generals to the list of things I have a responsibility to research has yet to seem like anything other than a suicidal idea.
