The inner pages of most web directories have no or low PR so don't expect a huge boost.

Getting a higher PR does not rely on links from directories alone. Google's algorithm can detect that your links are all coming from directories and that may raise suspicion. Your links should be as much varied as possible.

there are lots of factors to increase your site PR .... m not so sure about getting high pr with just submiting ur links in high pr directories .... for getting high PR you have to work on all seo factors and ur work should be qualitative ....

It is possible in a very non-competitive market... but WHY would you focus only on that?

Yes you can get good results by mass directory submissions. It does work for my blog and other sites which was done with this before.

I think if the home PR of any directory is good then you can get good crawling for your side, because good PR sites have good crawling, and directories places your link with follow tags.

They can be helpful but if you want to get a PR on your site with a list of directories, you will get old and beside this, to use directories is a little spamy...

My experience with directory submissions is pretty crap. I get better results from social bookmarking and articles. I would use directory submissions as a small part of my link building campaign and would certainly not spend a lot of time on it. One tip is to vary the descriptions and keywords that you use for your site as Google will see it as the same old duplicate crap.
