Can you get penalized for coop?

I use to use coop a few months ago (6-8) and it worked wonders... but I have since seen a few complaints that it can get you penalized.

Does anyone have any information/case studies on people getting penalized... or is it still safe to use?

 

The honest answer to this question is who the hell knows???

I've seen several threads that suggest a penalty for this type of link building. (Not just DP Coop)

However, I've run DP on several sites and have never been penalized.

 

My personal opinion is that if the coop were bad, Shawn (owner of DP) would not offer it anymore.

Also, the coop has been around for a long time, it is not like Google is just finding out about it. If it were a problem, seems like it would affect everyone in the coop and not a selective few.

I personally have had no issues.

I have the advertise link (pointing to the COOP) displayed as part of my 5 links

does anybody else get that ?

I don't consider it a smart move since there are doubts whether google approves of the network

well I assume you honestly don't understand what I mean,

if COOP is a bad neighborhood in the eyes of google
and you are pointing to a bad neighborhood
then this make you a bad guy as well (all in the eyes of google)

 

I have a site with Coop which goes from PR4 to PR0 yesterday ..
I wonder if the coop is the cause of this .
so i would like to know if anyone is facing the same problem
