Can you get me Top 10 rank in 7 days?

    Hi,

    I put a job offer up over at rentacoder (www.rentacoder.com) asking SEO marketers to get www.e-booked.com in the top 10 in Google for terms like "resell rights" and "resale rights". One guy said he could do it in 7 days for $50. This sounds extremely unlikely - judging from what I've read, it takes ages. Is this guy kidding with me?

    Someone else offered the same service for around $200, but didn't specify a time limit. What's a reasonable amount to pay for a top 10 ranking? What can most SEOs achieve?

    Many thanks!

    Pete.

    It depends on how long you want to stay there. I could technically do it (although I don't do consulting), but you aren't going to stay there. You can't do "one thing" and expect your ranking to stick forever.

    It's like saying, you will pay $xxxx for a back-cover ad on a magazine. Sure, you got it... but it's not going to stay there unless you do something to keep it there.

    IMO, Yes he is!

    The quickest anybody can get to the top 10 is by the time Google next update their PR (Especially since you want to get to the top 10). The next update will be around the first week of May.

    He might have said it just to get your business. But, he might have some high PR sites that he will create links on to your site. If this is the case, then $50 might not be that bad.

    I would advise asking him for a post-paid option, i.e: Tell him you will pay him once you get to the top 10. :)

    Hi,

    Thanks for your replies. Rentacoder.com is great because you don't pay until the job is done - escrow, really. He claims he can get me in the top 10 for $50, so I guess I could try it. The only thing is, maybe he's trying to get ftp access to the site. Is this likely? The other offers for the job are $200 and $400 - they're offering new content etc.

    The FTP access would be for them to be able to create links on your site. This would most likely be for link exchange purposes.

    I saw an ad for a site that was offering "1000 links for $1600" immediately. They claimed that these links would be set-up on different sites on different servers. This guy might be working for or operating have a similar firm.

    Simple concept: He promises $50 for top ten placement, gets FTP access to your site and once he has 1,000 such customers he keeps placing links on all the sites for his customers in the "network" as well as others outside the network who he charges.

    Although this is pretty good in theory, in reality it's nothing but a link farm and once Google sniffs it out ......... Boom! (No more top 10s) :mad:

    Of course, I don't know for sure if that's exactly what they are up to but I would highly recommend that you find out before you starting giving people FTP access to your site.

    I would not turn loose of ftp access to someone I do not know and trust. You do not want black hat code on your site.

    Not true at all. The Toolbar PR update has *nothing* to do with rankings changes.

    I don't get out of bed for $50

    This guy's charge out rate is ridiculous

    for $50 he's going to:
    * do the presales, earn your trust
    * setup for the job, verify ftp access, familiarise himself with your site and the changes required
    * do the job
    * invoice
    * chase the invoice

    He's either a kid or delusional. I don't think even the subcontinent subcontractors would do it for $50 :)

    I'll do it for $50, but all I guarantee is you are top 5 for 1 day. After that, it's up to you. :)

    Copy that - that was nonsense. I'd even take it a step further and say PR itself has little to do with ranking.

    It can be done as quick as justr after the next spider session (best case scenario) but could take ages.

    If I had to do it for a short while I'd hijack the current #1's. But I probably don't have the PR power to do it.

    This isn't neccesarily true either. Depending on the way he sets up the links in the network Google will never be able to find out if it's a link farm or not. ie If he stays strictly to non recipricol linking.

    I don't know where you got the idea about the PR update in terms of relevance to the SERPs. It's ridiculoius!

    No thats the sponsored links down the right hand side of the page. Adwords is the adverts which come up on peoples websites with adsense accounts.

    But then you have got me doubting myself... :confused:

    I give up, as far as I am aware the top leader boards are adwords and they are their because they are the highest paying adwords with good clickthrough rates. Lower bids for adwords are then displayed down the right hand side, and these ones also appear on adsense publishers sites. Can someone clarify if this is right or wrong?
